Rhône Valley: great wines from North and South

The Rhône Valley is one of France’s great wine regions. It is divided into two complementary worlds: the Northern Rhône, dominated by Syrah, and the Southern Rhône, warmer and more Mediterranean, shaped by Grenache and traditional blends.

From Côte-Rôtie to Hermitage, from Cornas to Crozes-Hermitage, and from Châteauneuf-du-Pape to Gigondas or Vacqueyras, the region offers deep, spicy and gastronomic red wines, as well as characterful white wines.

The spirit of Rhône wines

Rhône wines seduce through their intensity, generosity and natural affinity with food. The reds often combine black fruit, spice, pepper, garrigue and structure, while the whites offer volume, texture and floral notes.

Northern Rhône: Syrah, freshness and great terroirs

The Northern Rhône produces characterful wines from often steep hillside vineyards. Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Cornas, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage give deep, peppery and floral red wines, capable of ageing with elegance. Condrieu, Saint-Péray and white Hermitage complete the region with rare and gastronomic white wines.

Southern Rhône: sunshine, Grenache and great blends

The Southern Rhône expresses a warmer Mediterranean style. Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Cairanne and Côtes du Rhône Villages produce generous, spicy and savoury wines, often led by Grenache and completed by Syrah, Mourvèdre and other traditional grape varieties.

Northern Rhône: Syrah, pepper, violet, freshness, structure and age-worthy wines.

Southern Rhône: Grenache, garrigue, ripe fruit, sweet spices and Mediterranean generosity.

Food pairings: roast lamb, duck, grilled meats, slow-cooked dishes, herb-based cuisine and aged cheeses.
