Château Musar is a true contemporary icon of Lebanon and a pioneering figure of the Middle East’s modern wine renaissance. Founded in the 1930s by Serge Hochar, the estate has shaped the history of wine with its singular vision — a blend of emotion, tradition, and audacity.
Now led by Catherine Hochar, proud heir to this unique legacy, the estate covers 80 hectares nestled between mountain peaks and the Bekaa Valley at altitudes ranging from 850 to 1,200 meters. Musar embodies a timeless, artisanal, Mediterranean approach where wine tells the story of a place and its people.
The vineyards rest on four distinct terroirs in the Bekaa Valley, a mix of sandy-loam, clay, limestone, and rocky soils. This geological and microclimatic diversity gives Musar wines their unique complexity.
The main grape varieties are: Cinsault (50–60%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20–30%), Carignan (≈10%), with a touch of Grenache depending on the vintage. Each parcel is farmed with respect for its identity, allowing subtle, expressive blends shaped by nature rather than technique.
The estate follows a respectful viticulture close to organic farming: manual harvesting, indigenous yeasts, and minimal intervention. The goal is to reveal the personality of each terroir while preserving soil vitality and fruit purity.
This living, hands-off approach gives the wines their vibrant energy and rare capacity to evolve beautifully over time.
Each grape variety is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, followed by a post-fermentation blending process unique to Musar. The wine is then aged in oak barrels and casks for 12 to 15 months, and matured in bottle for 6 to 10 years before release, achieving exceptional depth and complexity.
This extended ageing develops refined structure, layered aromatics, and remarkable stability.
