Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2019 — E. Guigal
This Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2019 from E. Guigal is one of the house’s most emblematic and accessible expressions of the appellation. Sourced from both Côte Brune and Côte Blonde terroirs, it offers a complete reading of Côte-Rôtie, combining structure, perfume, dark fruit, spice and silky texture.
The 2019 vintage, outstanding in the Northern Rhône, gives here a rich, balanced and expressive wine. The blend of 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier brings depth, aromatic intensity and an elegant floral touch, in a style that is already seductive yet has genuine ageing potential.
Terroir: Côte Brune, Côte Blonde and the Guigal signature
The Brune et Blonde cuvée refers to the two historic sectors of Côte-Rôtie. Côte Brune, richer in iron and clay, brings structure, depth and power, while Côte Blonde, lighter and more limestone-influenced, enhances finesse, perfume and suppleness of texture.
True to the house style, the wine undergoes a long ageing period of 36 months in oak barrels, around 50% of which are new. This ageing brings notes of vanilla, mocha, spice and noble wood, while supporting the wine’s substance without erasing the freshness and typicity of Northern Rhône Syrah.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby red with purple reflections, dense and brilliant, with fine visual intensity that reflects the concentration of the vintage.
Nose: expressive and spicy, with black cherry, black raspberry, blackberry, blue fruits, black pepper, liquorice, violet, candied flowers, olive, vanilla, mocha and a smoky touch. With aeration, nuances of smoked bacon, graphite, sweet spices and noble wood may appear.
Palate: supple, ample and savoury, with juicy red and dark fruit, velvety tannins and fine structure. The wine is both accessible and serious, with a long, floral, spicy and lightly mineral finish, typical of a well-crafted Côte-Rôtie.

Expression of the 2019 vintage
The 2019 vintage gives Brune et Blonde a ripe, concentrated and particularly harmonious expression. The warmth of the year brings density and richness of fruit, while the natural freshness of the Côte-Rôtie slopes maintains balance, length and aromatic precision. The wine can already be enjoyed after aeration, but it will gain further complexity around violet, fine leather, pepper, smoke and black olive.
