This Côte-Rôtie Château d’Ampuis 2018 from E. Guigal is one of the house’s most emblematic cuvées, positioned between the famous Brune et Blonde and the mythical “La La” wines. Sourced from several great Côte-Rôtie terroirs, it combines depth, aromatic intensity, precise ageing and a structure built for long cellaring.

The 2018 vintage, warm and generous in the Northern Rhône, gives here a dense, ripe and deeply coloured Syrah, supported by a small proportion of Viognier. The wine brings together dark fruits, violet, smoked game, spice, graphite, mocha and polished tannins, in a broad, powerful and perfectly controlled style.

Terroir: Côte Blonde, Côte Brune and the Guigal signature

Château d’Ampuis is produced from seven exceptional parcels located across the two great sectors of Côte-Rôtie: Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. The Côte Blonde parcels bring finesse, perfume and silky texture, while Côte Brune reinforces structure, depth and ageing potential.

The traditional blend of the cuvée is based on 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier. Ageing for 38 months in new oak barrels, a hallmark of the Guigal style, brings notes of vanilla, mocha, spice and noble wood, while supporting the wine’s natural power without masking the complexity of the terroirs.

Expression of the 2018 vintage

The 2018 vintage gives Château d’Ampuis a sunny, concentrated and deeply structured expression. The warmth of the year brings colour, richness and tannic power, while the great Côte-Rôtie slopes preserve freshness, floral complexity and mineral depth. Already seductive through its silky texture, this wine will gain further complexity with cellaring, developing notes of violet, fine leather, smoked bacon, truffle, pepper, mocha and undergrowth.
