Stretching from Vienne to Valence, the Northern Rhône Valley is one of France’s most historic and revered wine regions. The vineyard area spans approximately 70 kilometers and includes eight major appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Château-Grillet, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, and Saint-Péray.

Grape Varieties and Wine Styles

The Northern Rhône is dominated by three iconic grape varieties:

• Syrah (red) — the only red grape, producing dense, peppery, elegant wines that combine power with freshness.

Style and Ageing Potential

Northern Rhône reds are deep, velvety, and linear, showing notes of blackberry, cassis, pepper, violet, and leather, supported by firm yet noble tannins. The whites are sensual, complex, and floral, developing aromas of honey, dried fruits, and white flowers with age. The finest crus can age for several decades.
