Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune 2022 — Domaine Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet
This Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune 2022 from Domaine Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet belongs to the estate’s rarest and most sought-after cuvées. Sourced from a tiny parcel on the mythical Côte Brune, it expresses Syrah in a deep, floral, mineral and intensely refined register.
The 2022 vintage gives here a wine of great concentration, still very young, yet already impressive for its aromatic brilliance and energy. Rose, violet, cassis, dark fruits, spice, graphite, liquorice and dark minerality shape a cellar-worthy Côte-Rôtie, dense, tense and remarkably elegant.
Terroir: Côte Brune, dark schists and mineral depth
Côte Brune is the historic single-parcel selection of Domaine Jamet. Produced in very small quantities, it comes from a parcel of around 0.5 hectare, where Syrah draws from dark, schistous and strongly mineral soils. This terroir gives wines that are more structured, deeper and often more austere in their youth than the estate’s classic blend.
True to the Jamet style, the cuvée preserves a very pure expression of Côte-Rôtie: whole-cluster vinification, measured ageing, and a search for energy, transparency and tension. The wine does not seek oak-driven opulence, but rather the depth of the site, floral complexity, tannic presence and the mineral signature that defines the greatest Syrah wines of the Northern Rhône.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby red with purple reflections, dense, brilliant and still very youthful, with visual intensity that announces great concentration.
Nose: very pure and captivating, with rose, violet, cassis, blackberry, black cherry, blood orange, mint, pepper, spices, graphite, liquorice and dark minerality. With aeration, nuances of dried flowers, chocolate, black olive, warm stone and precious wood may appear.
Palate: dense, deep and highly energetic, with compact substance, velvety yet still firm tannins, and remarkable mineral tension. The wine is intense without heaviness, carried by a very long, floral, peppery, liquorice-driven and almost telluric finish.
98/100 — Vinous
Vinous describes the Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune 2022 from Domaine Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet as an absolutely striking bottle, marked by blood orange, elderflower, mint, rose water, violet, graphite and blackberry. The palate impresses with its intensity, concentration and youthful energy, finishing with almost endless persistence. Wine Advocate also awarded it 96–98/100, highlighting a dense, floral, spicy, mineral cuvée built for long ageing.
Expression of the 2022 vintage
The 2022 vintage gives Côte Brune a solar yet perfectly controlled expression, with great fruit ripeness, dense structure and mineral freshness that preserves balance. The wine is still in an intense youthful phase: it can impress today after long aeration, but ideally deserves several years in the cellar to gain complexity, harmony and aromatic depth.
In summary: a Côte-Rôtie Côte Brune 2022 from Jean-Paul & Corinne Jamet, awarded 98 points by Vinous, sourced from a tiny Côte Brune parcel and marked by rose, violet, cassis, graphite, liquorice, mineral energy and outstanding ageing potential.
Food pairings: roast lamb, matured rib of beef, roast pigeon, wild duck, game birds, hare à la royale, slow-cooked beef cheek, black truffle, mushrooms, pepper-based dishes, reduced sauces or mature hard cheeses.
