Domaine de la Rochette — A Benchmark Pinot Noir from Switzerland
Located in the village of Cressier, overlooking Lake Neuchâtel, Domaine de la Rochette is widely regarded as one of Switzerland’s most distinguished estates. Since 1999, Jacques Tatasciore has guided this discreet six-hectare property with remarkable precision, crafting wines of rare finesse and authenticity. Dedicated principally to Pinot Noir, the estate has earned a devoted following among collectors seeking elegant, terroir-driven wines produced in limited quantities.
Terroir & Vineyard
Set at approximately 450 metres altitude, the vineyards rest on thin Jurassic limestone soils, bringing natural freshness, purity and mineral definition to the wines. Many parcels are planted with old vines, some between 35 and 70 years of age, selected from historic massal selections and cultivated with meticulous care.
- Estate size: approximately 6 hectares.
- Main grape variety: Pinot Noir.
- Production: highly limited, with sought-after parcel selections.
Viticulture & Winemaking
Work in the vineyard is conducted with a strong respect for the natural balance of the site. Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, used with discretion to preserve the purity of fruit and the character of each parcel. The resulting wines combine texture, precision and remarkable transparency of terroir.
Style of the Wines
The wines of Domaine de la Rochette are celebrated for their refinement, freshness and quietly complex structure. They reveal delicate red fruit, floral nuances, subtle spice and a persistent mineral line. While immediately graceful, the finest cuvées possess the depth and balance required for extended cellaring.
- Les Margiles – the estate’s emblematic cuvée, noted for elegance and depth.
- Les Rissieux – more structured and intense, with superb ageing potential.
- Vieilles Vignes – a pure and expressive reflection of the estate style.
- Chardonnay – a rare micro-production depending on vintage conditions.
