Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru — Gevrey’s Hidden Gem

Situated to the south of Gevrey-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru covers 18.58 hectares and shares both its terroir and legal framework with Charmes-Chambertin. Although it is the largest of Gevrey’s nine Grand Crus, it remains one of the least known, as producers are permitted to label their wines as Charmes-Chambertin, a more familiar name to the public. This particularity makes bottles labeled Mazoyères-Chambertin especially rare and coveted among collectors and connoisseurs.


Terroir & Exposure

The vineyard lies on a mosaic of limestone marl, gravel and fine clay soils, facing east to southeast. The vines sink deep into the limestone bedrock, ensuring natural drainage and even ripening of the grapes. This combination imparts a remarkable balance of power, minerality and freshness — a hallmark of the finest terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin.

Style & Personality

Mazoyères-Chambertin wines are defined by their outstanding balance and aromatic complexity. The nose opens with notes of blond tobacco, spices, ripe black fruits and forest floor, sometimes enhanced by hints of truffle and violet. On the palate, they are dense and structured, with well-integrated tannins and a long, harmonious finish. While approachable after 10 to 15 years, they have the ability to evolve beautifully over several decades.
