Condrieu — A Unique Terroir for Exceptional White Wines

Located on the right bank of the Rhône River, between Vienne and Valence, the Condrieu appellation is world-renowned for its white wines made exclusively from Viognier. This privileged terroir enjoys a Mediterranean climate and dramatic topography, resulting in wines of remarkable aromatic intensity and finesse.

The Terroir of Condrieu

The vineyards of Condrieu are planted on steep slopes, supported by terraces overlooking the Rhône. The soils, composed of schist, pebbles, and clay, give the wines a subtle minerality and fine tension.

The Mediterranean climate, tempered by cool breezes from the river, allows for a slow and steady ripening of the grapes. This exceptional combination produces wines that are rich in aroma yet perfectly balanced.

Grape Variety: Viognier

Viognier is the only grape variety permitted in the Condrieu appellation. A demanding grape with naturally low yields, it produces expressive and elegant white wines of remarkable quality.

Its aromatic profile is highly distinctive: white flowers (violet, jasmine), stone fruits (apricot, peach), and sweet spices, often complemented by honeyed and candied fruit notes.

Style of Condrieu Wines

Condrieu produces dry white wines renowned for their richness, silky texture, and aromatic intensity. On the palate, they display a rounded mouthfeel balanced by elegant freshness, with a long, persistent finish.

While highly seductive in their youth, great Condrieu wines can age gracefully for 5 to 10 years, gaining in complexity and depth over time.
