Chassagne-Montrachet — great white and red wines of Burgundy
Located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations. Renowned for its great white wines made from Chardonnay, it produces deep, textured and mineral cuvées, highly sought after by lovers of fine Burgundian terroirs.
The appellation also preserves a fine tradition of Pinot Noir, with delicate, savoury and often underestimated red wines. Between legendary Grands Crus, characterful Premiers Crus and a wide diversity of clay-limestone soils, Chassagne-Montrachet offers a complete expression of the Côte d’Or, combining richness, precision and elegance.
A major Côte de Beaune appellation, celebrated for its ample and mineral Chardonnays, yet also capable of producing delicate, elegant and deeply Burgundian Pinot Noirs.
A prestigious terroir in the heart of the Côte d’Or
The vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet extend across well-exposed slopes, with stony limestone, marl and deeper soils. This diversity of terrain allows for a wide range of expressions: some climats produce taut, chiselled and saline whites, while others give broader, more powerful and enveloping wines.
Chardonnay now dominates the image of the appellation, particularly in its most renowned sectors. Pinot Noir, historically important in Chassagne-Montrachet, produces reds with fine fruit, supple texture and immediate charm, while retaining a strong capacity to evolve in the best vintages.

Wine styles
White Chassagne-Montrachet — Made from Chardonnay, it combines volume, freshness and minerality. Its aromas evoke white flowers, pear, citrus fruit and fresh hazelnut, sometimes with buttery, smoky or subtly spicy nuances. The finest wines combine breadth, energy and long persistence.
Red Chassagne-Montrachet — Made from Pinot Noir, it stands out for its delicate fruit, with notes of cherry, raspberry, sweet spices and forest floor as it ages. Its fine tannins and silky texture make it a particularly enjoyable Burgundy red at the table.
Sought-after Premiers Crus and climats
Among the most renowned Premiers Crus, Morgeot is admired for its structure and depth, while Les Caillerets is often sought after for its finesse, mineral brilliance and precision. La Maltroie, Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, Clos Saint-Jean, La Boudriotte, Les Embazées and Les Champs-Gains also illustrate the richness of the appellation.
This mosaic of climats allows Chassagne-Montrachet to offer very different wines depending on the parcels, exposures, soils and the sensitivity of each winegrower.
Food pairings
The whites pair beautifully with noble fish, shellfish, lobster, langoustines, poultry in cream sauce, sweetbreads, mushrooms and mature cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
The reds are well suited to roast poultry, veal, grilled pork, white meats in sauce, small feathered game and certain washed-rind cheeses.
