Domaine François Raveneau — The Pinnacle of Chablis
Founded in 1948, Domaine François Raveneau is widely considered the ultimate icon of great white wines from Chablis. With barely 9 hectares spread across the finest climats of the appellation, the estate crafts rare and highly coveted wines renowned worldwide for their purity, striking minerality, and exceptional ability to age gracefully for decades.
Still family-run, the domaine is today led by Bernard Raveneau’s children — Isabelle and Maxime — who uphold with absolute rigor the style and standards that built the Raveneau legend.
Philosophy & Winemaking
The vines are farmed manually and traditionally, without certification but with deep respect for nature. Yields are deliberately kept very low. Each plot is vinified separately with slow fermentations using indigenous yeasts.
Aging takes place in old oak barrels — never new — for around 18 months, sometimes longer depending on the vintage. Nothing is rushed: bottling occurs only when the wines are fully ready.
Wine Style
Raveneau’s Chablis are unmatched in their density, precision, and linearity. These are wines without artifice: a pure nose of white fruits, citrus, and flint; a taut, saline, deeply structured palate. Their chalky texture, razor-sharp freshness, and layered complexity make them just as fascinating young as after 20 or 30 years of aging.
These are elite wines — both austere and deeply moving.
Signature Cuvées
- Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos — The most majestic cuvée: vertical, ample, saline with an endless finish.
- Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre — Absolute purity, vibrant minerality, Grand Cru structure. The estate’s signature.
- Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux — Broader and more earthy, yet tense and racy. Remarkable aging capacity.
- Chablis Village — Exceptional for a “village” wine: precise, saline, and taut. A true standout.
