In 1995, Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck founded Dominio de Pingus in La Horra, at the heart of Ribera del Duero. His ambition: to prove that Tempranillo, cultivated with respect on very old vines, could rival the greatest wines in the world. From the very first vintage, acclaimed by international critics, Pingus became a legend.
The Grand Vin comes from about 4 to 4.2 hectares of clay-limestone slopes located over 800 m above sea level. Many vines are over a century old, some even pre-phylloxera, farmed under strict biodynamic principles, with no irrigation and no herbicides. All work is done manually and parcel by parcel, in harmony with the living ecosystem.
Each lot is vinified separately with indigenous yeasts, gentle maceration, and minimal intervention. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood gradually reduced to preserve the purity and balance of the fruit.
Pingus embodies serene power, a velvety texture, and deep aromas of black fruits, incense, and graphite. A wine for contemplation and long ageing, it combines concentration, energy, and inner harmony — a perfect symbiosis between man and terroir.
