Côte-Rôtie Fructus Voluptas 2024 — Domaine Jean-Paul, Corinne & Loïc Jamet
This Côte-Rôtie Fructus Voluptas 2024 from Domaine Jean-Paul, Corinne & Loïc Jamet offers a more immediate, fruit-driven and savoury reading of the Jamet style. Without losing the identity of Côte-Rôtie, this cuvée highlights the brightness of Syrah, the freshness of the fruit, fine spices and a texture that is more accessible in its youth.
The 2024 vintage gives here a crisp, floral and highly drinkable wine, carried by violet, fresh dark fruits, liquorice, sweet spices, a lightly smoky bacon note and fine mineral tension. A pleasure-driven Côte-Rôtie, yet with enough structure to evolve gracefully over a few years in the cellar.
Terroir: Syrah on schist and the fruit-driven side of Côte-Rôtie
Fructus Voluptas expresses a softer and more immediate facet of Côte-Rôtie, while retaining the aromatic signature of the Northern Rhône. Syrah expresses itself here on schist soils, giving a wine marked by violet, pepper, liquorice, fresh dark fruits and fine energy on the palate.
The vinification favours fruit purity and drinkability, with a significant proportion of destemmed grapes and ageing for around 16 months in used oak barrels. This choice preserves aromatic brightness, avoids any marked oak influence and allows the natural freshness of Syrah to come through.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby red with violet reflections, bright and youthful, with clear visual intensity but no impression of excessive extraction.
Nose: open and expressive, with black cherry, raspberry, fresh blackberry, cassis, violet, liquorice, pepper, sweet spices, black olive and a lightly smoky bacon note. With aeration, nuances of graphite, dried flowers, peppermint and warm stone may appear.
Palate: juicy, fresh and energetic, with clear fruit, fine tannins and a softer texture than the domaine’s classic Côte-Rôtie. The finish remains precise, floral, peppery and lightly smoky, with the mineral tension that recalls the nobility of the appellation.
Fructus Voluptas is a Côte-Rôtie built around fruit pleasure, freshness and a more immediate accessibility, without abandoning the depth of the Jamet style. More open in its youth than the classic cuvée, it nevertheless retains true Northern Rhône Syrah presence, with violet, pepper, liquorice, a smoky touch and the ability to evolve over several years.
Expression of the 2024 vintage
The 2024 vintage highlights a fresh, slender and particularly digestible profile. In this cuvée, balance rests more on aromatic purity, crisp fruit and tannic finesse than on power. The wine can be enjoyed young after moderate aeration, but will gain nuance with a few years in the cellar, developing more floral, peppery, smoky and lightly tertiary notes.
In summary: a Côte-Rôtie Fructus Voluptas 2024 from Jean-Paul, Corinne & Loïc Jamet, more immediate and fruit-driven than the classic cuvée, marked by violet, fresh dark fruits, liquorice, pepper, a smoky touch and fine Syrah freshness.
Food pairings: roast lamb, free-range poultry, duck breast, veal chop with mushrooms, Lyon-style warm saucisson, slow-cooked beef cheek, roasted vegetables, pepper-based dishes, mushrooms or mature hard cheeses.
