Côtes du Jura — The Authentic Expression of Jura’s Terroir

Côtes du Jura is one of the emblematic appellations of the Jura wine region, located in eastern France. It stretches over a vast viticultural strip crossing the Jura department and part of the historic Franche-Comté region. This unique territory, rich in geological and climatic diversity, allows for the production of all the great expressions of Jura wines: white, red, rosé, Vin Jaune, and Vin de Paille.

A Diverse and Expressive Terroir

The appellation is rooted in limestone marl soils, shaped by a complex geological history. This mineral composition gives the wines their characteristic tension and aromatic finesse. The continental climate, marked by cold winters and hot summers, encourages slow ripening of the grapes — essential for achieving precise and complex cuvées.

White Wines — Freshness and Depth

Côtes du Jura white wines are made from Chardonnay and Savagnin, the region’s two signature grape varieties.

  • Chardonnay cuvées stand out for their freshness, pure aromatics, and beautiful minerality.
  • Savagnin produces wines of great complexity, including the famous Vin Jaune, aged under a veil of yeast and developing notes of walnut, dried fruits, and sweet spices.

Thanks to their structure and tension, these white wines have excellent ageing potential.

Red Wines — Elegance and Finesse

Red wines are produced from Pinot Noir, Trousseau, and Poulsard:

  • Pinot Noir brings structure and elegance,
  • Trousseau adds concentration and spicy notes,
  • Poulsard offers delicacy and fresh red fruit aromas.

These red wines are typically fine, fruity, and elegant, with a supple tannic structure and great drinkability.

Rosé Wines — Lightness and Charm

Côtes du Jura rosés are primarily made from Poulsard. Their pale hue and aromatic freshness make them charming and versatile wines, perfect for summer dining. They display notes of strawberry, redcurrant, and raspberry, with a delicate, refreshing palate.

Ageing & Food Pairings

Many Côtes du Jura wines are aged in oak barrels, enhancing their structure and complexity while preserving their sense of place. Their versatility allows for a wide range of gastronomic pairings:

  • Jura cheeses, especially Comté
  • Seafood and fish for the whites
  • Poultry and white meats for the reds
  • Light summer dishes for the rosés

An Emblematic Jura Appellation

The Côtes du Jura appellation embodies the diversity and richness of Jura’s vineyards. Thanks to its varied styles and strong geological identity, it appeals to both lovers of authentic wines and connoisseurs seeking distinctive cuvées. It stands as a testament to the ancestral craftsmanship of Jura’s winemakers, passed down through generations.
