Vouvray
The pure expression of Chenin Blanc
Located east of Tours on the right bank of the Loire River, the Vouvray appellation (established in 1936) covers approximately 2,000 hectares of sunlit slopes. Dedicated exclusively to Chenin Blanc, it produces an impressive diversity of styles, renowned for their exceptional ageing potential.
Terroir and climate
The vineyard rests on a limestone tuffeau subsoil, topped with aubuis (clay-limestone) and perruches (flinty clay). This luminous terroir, combined with a temperate oceanic climate, encourages slow ripening of the grapes and, in certain years, the development of noble rot — essential for producing the finest sweet wines.
Styles and aromatic expression
Vouvray showcases Chenin Blanc in all its nuances, from dry to sparkling, including demi-sec and sweet wines:
- Sec (dry): taut, precise, with exemplary mineral purity.
- Demi-sec: a subtle balance of freshness and gentle sweetness.
- Moelleux & sweet: silky texture, layered complexity, and aromatic intensity.
- Traditional method sparkling: fine bubbles and exceptional balance.
Typical aromas include quince, apple, linden, honey, and beeswax, evolving over time into dried fruit and spice notes.

| Serving temperature | 8–10 °C for sweet and sparkling wines ≈ 10 °C for dry wines |
