Côte de Nuits, great Burgundy Pinot Noir wines and legendary terroirs

The Côte de Nuits is one of the most prestigious wine areas in Burgundy. Located in the northern part of the Côte d’Or, between Dijon and Corgoloin, it brings together some of the villages, climats and grands crus most sought after by lovers of great red wines.

From Vosne-Romanée to Gevrey-Chambertin, via Chambolle-Musigny, the Côte de Nuits embodies one of the noblest expressions of Pinot Noir: finesse, depth, texture, complexity and ability to evolve.

The spirit of the Côte de Nuits

The Côte de Nuits represents the historic heart of Burgundy’s great red wines. Its wines do not seek power alone: they express the precision of place, the finesse of Pinot Noir, the complexity of climats and a rare emotion in the greatest vintages.

A selection of Côte de Nuits wines available in Switzerland

Buying a Côte de Nuits wine means accessing one of the greatest expressions of Pinot Noir. These wines can be chosen for refined tasting, a special occasion, a cellar selection or a collection of great Burgundies.

The rarity of certain cuvées, the reputation of the domaines and the precision of the climats make selection especially important. Provenance, vintage, storage condition, appellation and producer style are essential criteria, particularly for premiers crus, grands crus and mature vintages.

The great villages of the Côte de Nuits

Gevrey-Chambertin: an emblematic appellation of Burgundian power, producing deep, structured and intense wines, often built for ageing.

Morey-Saint-Denis: a village of balance between density, precision and finesse, with several major grands crus such as Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis and Clos des Lambrays.

Chambolle-Musigny: a benchmark for finesse and elegance, famous for floral, silky, delicate wines of great aromatic purity.

Vougeot: a village shaped by Clos de Vougeot, a historic grand cru whose styles vary depending on sector, domaine and exposure.

Vosne-Romanée: a mythical village, renowned for sensual, refined, spicy and complex Pinot Noir wines with unique textural nobility.

Nuits-Saint-Georges: a structured and intense appellation, often firmer in youth, but capable of developing great depth with time.

Choose according to your needs

For power: Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges offer structured, deep wines often built for long evolution.

For finesse: Chambolle-Musigny seduces with its silky texture, floral notes and natural elegance.

For complexity: Vosne-Romanée embodies one of Burgundy’s aromatic summits, between fine spices, noble texture and depth.

Terroirs, climats and grands crus

The terroir of the Côte de Nuits rests on alternating limestone, clay, marl and scree soils, with sometimes highly sensitive variations from one parcel to another. This diversity produces wines of great precision, where each climat can express a distinct personality.

The vines are mostly planted on east- or south-east-facing slopes with good natural drainage. This combination of soil, slope, exposure and semi-continental climate allows Pinot Noir to reach slow and progressive maturity.

Grands crus of Gevrey-Chambertin: Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Mazis-Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin.

Grands crus of Chambolle-Musigny: Musigny and Bonnes-Mares, two major expressions of finesse, depth and complexity.

Grands crus of Vosne-Romanée: Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, La Romanée and Grands Échezeaux.

Other references: Clos de Vougeot, Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays and Échezeaux complete the exceptional richness of the Côte de Nuits.

Pinot Noir and wine style

The Côte de Nuits is almost entirely dedicated to Pinot Noir. Here, the grape variety finds one of its noblest expressions, capable of translating terroir nuances with great precision. The wines can be floral, fruity, spicy, deep, silky or intensely structured depending on the village, climat, vintage and domaine.

Youth: cherry, raspberry, blackberry, violet, rose, fine spices and delicate tannins.

Evolution: undergrowth, truffle, fine leather, dried flowers, noble earth and sweet spices.

Balance: the finest wines combine intensity and restraint, power and finesse, concentration and transparency.

Viticulture, domaines and rarity

The domaines of the Côte de Nuits are often modest in size, with fragmented holdings and extreme attention paid to each vine. Viticulture is precise, demanding and increasingly oriented towards practices that respect the soils and the natural expression of terroir.

Winemaking generally relies on traditional methods: carefully sorted grapes, fermentation in vats, measured extraction, variable use of whole clusters depending on the domaine, followed by ageing in oak barrels. The aim is not to mask the terroir, but to reveal the finesse, structure and depth of Pinot Noir.

Food pairings with the Côte de Nuits

The red wines of the Côte de Nuits pair well with refined cuisine centred on delicate textures, tender meats and deep flavours. Their aromatic finesse and often elegant tannins allow subtle pairings with poultry, mushrooms, veal, game birds and truffle-based dishes.

Gevrey-Chambertin: game birds, beef, lamb, mushroom dishes and autumn cuisine.

Chambolle-Musigny: fine poultry, veal, pigeon, sweetbreads, delicate dishes and light sauces.

Vosne-Romanée: duck, truffle, refined cuisine, noble mushrooms and tender meats.

Nuits-Saint-Georges: red meats, slow-cooked dishes, mature cheeses and more structured cuisine.
