Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru — The Rare Delicacy of Gevrey’s Smallest Grand Cru

Among the nine Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin stands out for its rarity and refinement. With just 2.69 hectares, it is the smallest of them all. Its name evokes the Morello cherry (“griotte”), whose fragrance and flavor define its distinctive personality. Grown on fine limestone-clay soils, this terroir produces Pinot Noirs of remarkable purity, elegance, and precision.

Terroir

Nestled between Chapelle-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin, the vineyard enjoys an east to southeast exposure with excellent natural drainage. These ideal conditions allow for slow and balanced ripening, resulting in wines of delicacy and depth. Production is extremely limited, making this Grand Cru a discreet jewel cherished by connoisseurs around the world.

Style & Personality

Griotte-Chambertin first enchants with its bright aromas of Morello cherry, raspberry, and violet, which evolve over time into nuances of cherry pit, forest floor, cocoa, and truffle. Behind its seductive fruit lies a refined structure, supported by a silky texture and an elegant, persistent finish. With age, it reveals a fine mineral backbone, floral sophistication, and airy smoothness — the signature of this delicate terroir.
