Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Feusselottes 2020 — Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg
Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Feusselottes 2020 is one of the estate’s most refined cuvées. From a climat situated at the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, this rare Pinot Noir expresses with great distinction the floral delicacy, silky depth and aromatic sensuality that define the finest wines of the village.
The 2020 vintage brings remarkable concentration to this cuvée without weighing down its texture. The wine combines red and dark fruits, fine spices, rose, cocoa, undergrowth and a precise line of freshness, in a style that is vibrant, elegant and clearly built for serious ageing.
Terroir
Les Feusselottes is a Premier Cru of Chambolle-Musigny whose name evokes small hollows in the landscape. The parcel farmed by Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, acquired by Georges Mugneret in 1985, lies on red soils with rocky outcrops in places. This terroir gives Pinot Noir a particularly fine expression, focused less on power than on texture, aromatic persistence, delicate spice and floral elegance.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby red, bright and youthful, with fine violet reflections.
Nose: refined bouquet of red cherry, plum, raspberry, wild berries and black cherry, accompanied by notes of rose, violet, gentle spices, raw cocoa, fine undergrowth, espresso and a discreet touch of truffle.
Palate: silky, deep and vibrant, with very pure fruit, fine tannins and a freshness that carries the palate with precision. The wine is both ample and delicate, finishing long, penetrating, floral and delicately spicy.
Expert reviews
93–95/100 – Neal Martin, Vinous: the critic describes a wine marked by a mix of red and black fruits, notes of undergrowth and espresso, followed by a medium-bodied palate with supple tannins, fine freshness, well-judged acidity and a precise finish. He underlines the remarkable character of this cuvée in the vintage.
93–95+/100 – William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: the wine is presented as one of the highlights of the 2020 range, with aromas of plum, red cherry, wild berries, warm spices, raw cocoa and rose petals. The palate is described as layered, vibrant and elegant, with a harmonious profile and a long, penetrating finish.
Expression of the vintage
The 2020 vintage gives Les Feusselottes significant density, driven by ripe and deep fruit, yet the balance remains beautifully controlled. The wine preserves the natural grace of Chambolle-Musigny, with fine texture, a fresh line and great aromatic purity. Already seductive for its brightness, it has the structure to evolve with elegance over many years.
For service, open the bottle a few hours in advance. Gentle aeration will allow the wine to reveal its floral, spicy and subtly earthy nuances without disturbing the finesse of its structure. Avoid aggressive decanting while the wine is still young.
In summary: a rare and highly sought-after Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, rated up to 93–95+/100 by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Les Feusselottes 2020 combines depth, floral delicacy, silky texture and great Burgundian precision.
Food pairings: roast pigeon, farm poultry, veal fillet, duck with gentle spices, mushroom risotto, truffle-based cuisine, roasted root vegetables or mature soft Burgundian cheeses.
