Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2010 — Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, Magnum 1.5 L

Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2010 is a rare bottle from one of the most sought-after estates in Vosne-Romanée. Offered here in magnum 1.5 L, this great Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits combines the historic stature of Clos de Vougeot with the refined touch and natural elegance that define the Mugneret-Gibourg style.

The 2010 vintage, classical, precise and built for ageing, gives this Grand Cru a deep, structured and still remarkably vibrant expression. The magnum format encourages slower evolution, better preservation of freshness and more gradual integration of tannins, making this bottle both a collector’s piece and a great wine for the table.

Terroir

Clos de Vougeot is one of Burgundy’s most emblematic Grand Cru vineyards, located between Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. Its stony clay-limestone soils give wines of structure, depth and considerable longevity. In the hands of Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, this often powerful terroir gains elegance, with measured extraction, refined texture and an expression that is more sensual than massive.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep garnet red, still dense, with subtle brick reflections suggesting slow and noble evolution.

Nose: complex bouquet of black cherry, Morello cherry, plum, ripe red fruits, menthol, gentle spices and liquorice, accompanied by nuances of undergrowth, fresh earth, faded rose, fine smoke and graceful maturity.

Palate: ample, deep and structured, with tannins that remain present yet have already been polished by age. The wine retains fine energy, with a long, pure and persistent finish marked by dark fruit, spice, menthol, noble earth and discreet minerality.

Expert review

92–94/100 – Antonio Galloni, Vinous: the critic describes the 2010 Clos de Vougeot as a magnificent wine, endowed with remarkable textural richness and superb overall balance. He highlights a dark-toned profile marked by black cherry, menthol, spice and liquorice, with a pure, crystalline and highly persistent finish. A major success for the estate in this Grand Cru.

Expression of the vintage

The 2010 vintage gives Clos de Vougeot a classical structure, precise freshness and significant ageing potential. At this stage, the wine is gradually entering a phase of maturity while still retaining reserve. In magnum, its evolution remains slower than in standard bottle, with fine tension still present and complexity likely to continue developing into the mid-2040s.

For service, a gradual opening is recommended. Gentle aeration in bottle or in a wide carafe, without aggressive decanting, will allow the wine to unfold slowly while preserving its aromatic finesse and balance.

In summary: a rare Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg, rated 92–94/100 by Vinous. This 2010 magnum offers a remarkable combination of depth, structure, elegance and ageing potential, in a style that is refined rather than demonstrative.

Food pairings: roast pigeon, beef fillet, veal chop with morels, duck with gentle spices, game birds, truffle risotto, wild mushrooms or mature soft cheeses.
