Terroir & Winemaking

The Margotés climat lies at the southern edge of Rully’s Premier Cru hillside, benefiting from a relatively cool, south-east exposure and frequent air circulation. The soils are dominated by limestone with significant marl components, contributing to the wine’s tension, chalky texture, and pronounced saline character.

Farmed according to organic principles, the grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed, often as whole clusters, to preserve freshness and aromatic purity. Ageing takes place over approximately 12 to 18 months on fine lees, with restrained oak influence—often in large-format vessels—to allow the terroir to express itself transparently. The 2020 vintage offers excellent balance between ripeness and vibrant acidity.

Tasting Notes

Nose:
Delicate and focused, showing white flowers, white-fleshed fruit (peach, quince), fresh almond, citrus zest, and subtle chalky notes.

Palate:
Linear and energetic, with a finely textured mouthfeel supported by bright acidity. The limestone influence brings clarity, salinity, and length, while the fruit remains pure and vibrant.

Finish:
Long, fresh, and mineral-driven, leaving a precise and persistent impression and pointing to strong ageing potential.
