Estate signature

In Volnay, Domaine de Montille stands for a Burgundy shaped by line, restraint and a clear reading of each climat. Heir to Hubert de Montille’s classical vision, Étienne de Montille has broadened the estate’s reach without diluting its identity: finely drawn, age-worthy reds led by Pinot Noir, alongside poised white wines from some of the Côte de Beaune’s most admired terroirs.

Domaine de Montille – A great family name in Burgundy

Domaine de Montille is one of Volnay’s historic estates and one of the most respected names in the Côte de Beaune. Long associated with a classical vision of Burgundian Pinot Noir, the domaine has built its reputation on a simple principle: allowing each climat to speak clearly, without excess extraction, heavy oak or unnecessary effect.

Since the 1990s, Étienne de Montille has carried the family legacy forward while giving the estate a broader dimension. Successive acquisitions have strengthened its presence across major terroirs in Volnay, Pommard, Vosne-Romanée, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. This evolution has made Domaine de Montille a reference for both reds and whites, with the same focus on balance, accuracy and a faithful expression of place.

Precise, committed viticulture

The estate has been farmed organically since 1995 and biodynamically since 2005, with constant attention to soil life, natural balance and the right level of ripeness. In the cellar, the approach remains measured: native-yeast fermentations, carefully judged whole-cluster use depending on the cuvée and vintage, controlled élevage and a restrained proportion of new oak.

The result is a range of wines that favour structure over showiness. The reds are long, fresh and finely tannic. The whites, drawn from leading Côte de Beaune vineyards, combine energy, mineral definition and persistent length.

The style of the wines

The Pinot Noirs of Domaine de Montille are known for their fine texture, vertical frame and ability to gain complexity with age. Their aromatic profile often moves between red berries, dried flowers, delicate spice and more earthy nuances after several years in bottle.

The Chardonnays are more defined by line than breadth, with notes of citrus, wet stone, white flowers and a straight, often saline finish. These are precise, gastronomic wines, made as much for the table as for long cellar ageing.
