Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2009 — Domaine Hubert de Montille, Magnum 1.5 L
The Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2009 from Domaine Hubert de Montille, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, is a serious Burgundy bottle for lovers of characterful Pinot Noir. From one of the noblest climats on the Corton hill, it combines the natural power of the Grand Cru with the classical precision of the domaine.
The 2009 vintage brings ripe fruit, density and generous texture, without erasing the deep structure of Corton. The profile evokes ripe red fruit, black cherry, raspberry, spice, noble earth, forest floor, fine leather and a discreetly savoury note. The magnum format makes this bottle even more desirable: slower evolution, greater presence at the table and stronger collectible appeal.
Clos du Roi, one of Corton’s great red wine terroirs
Clos du Roi is one of the most sought-after climats within the Corton Grand Cru appellation. Located on the Corton hill, it produces wines of depth, structure and length, often marked by an earthy, spicy and powerful expression of Pinot Noir.
At de Montille, Corton Clos du Roi retains a very classical identity: serious substance, present tannins, structural freshness and excellent ageing capacity. The 2009, vinified with a high proportion of whole clusters, offers an intense and refined reading of the climat, with a muscular palate but no excessive rusticity.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep ruby with garnet reflections, still dense and bright, showing a discreet and noble evolution.
Nose: intense and complex, with black cherry, ripe raspberry, red fruit, spice, noble oak, fresh earth and a discreet savoury touch. With air, notes of forest floor, fine leather, chocolate, soft smoke and warm stone begin to emerge.
Palate: full, deep and structured, with ripe fruit, silky texture and a still serious tannic frame. The finish is long, spicy, earthy and persistent, carried by the richness of the vintage and the backbone of the Corton terroir.

The 2009 vintage, magnum format and serving advice
The 2009 vintage in red Burgundy produced ripe, generous and seductive wines, with beautiful fruit richness. On a powerful terroir such as Corton Clos du Roi, this maturity brings flesh and charm, while leaving the wine with the structure needed for long evolution.
The magnum 1.5 L format is particularly attractive for a Grand Cru of this level: it encourages slower, more harmonious ageing, while offering an ideal format for a fine table, a prestigious gift or a collectible cellar. Serve at around 15 to 16°C in large Burgundy glasses. Open in advance and favour gradual aeration, without overly forceful decanting.
Key point: a Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2009 from Domaine Hubert de Montille in magnum, rated up to 94/100, powerful, deep, refined and ideal for lovers of ageworthy Grand Cru Burgundy.
Food pairings: mature ribeye, roast pigeon, spiced duck, roast lamb, veal fillet, refined beef bourguignon, game birds, mushroom risotto, dishes with morels, aged Comté or mature Burgundy cheeses.
