Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Le Cailleret” 2016 — Domaine de Montille, Magnum 1.5 L
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Le Cailleret” 2016 from Domaine de Montille, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, is a great white Burgundy from one of the most distinguished Premier Cru vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet. Precise, mineral and deeply elegant, it expresses the nobility of Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune.
The magnum format gives this bottle additional appeal. It allows slower, more harmonious ageing, preserving freshness, mineral tension and aromatic complexity over time. For a great Puligny already showing several years of evolution, this is a particularly desirable format for lovers of fine white Burgundy.
Le Cailleret, a Premier Cru close in spirit to the Grands Crus
Le Cailleret is one of Puligny-Montrachet’s most prestigious Premier Cru climats. Located mid-slope, in the natural continuation of Montrachet, it occupies an exceptional position below Chevalier-Montrachet and above Les Pucelles. Its name evokes the stony nature of the soil, a key element of its identity.
This terroir produces white wines of great tension, marked by stone, citrus fruit, white flowers and a long, straight, saline finish. More than a simply charming Puligny, Le Cailleret offers the architecture of a great wine: precision, relief, energy and depth.
The Domaine de Montille style
Domaine de Montille is known for wines built on freshness, terroir clarity and ageing potential. In its white wines, the domaine seeks a clean, tense expression of Chardonnay, with precise ageing that supports the wine without adding weight.
In this Puligny-Montrachet Le Cailleret 2016, oak remains at the service of minerality. The palate favours energy, definition and persistence rather than obvious richness. The result is a refined, elegant white Burgundy with excellent potential, especially in magnum.
The 2016 Burgundy vintage
The 2016 vintage in Burgundy is now appreciated for its balance between ripeness, freshness and precision. For the great white wines, the finest terroirs produced tense, chiselled wines with strong ageing potential.
In Puligny-Montrachet, this natural freshness particularly highlights stony climats such as Le Cailleret. The wine retains great energy, a citrus and floral expression, and a mineral finish that extends the palate with elegance.
Tasting notes

Nose: precise and elegant, with lemon, nectarine, white flowers, fine spices, white pepper, crushed stone, wet chalk and a subtle smoky touch from the ageing.
Palate: lively, straight and energetic, with a broad yet tense texture, fresh citrus fruit, pronounced minerality and a long, fragrant, saline finish. The magnum format preserves the wine’s brightness and supports its ageing potential.

Serving and ageing potential
This Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Cailleret 2016 in magnum can be enjoyed today, but it deserves careful opening. Gentle aeration in the glass is preferable, preserving aromatic precision, mineral tension and freshness.
Serve at around 11 to 12°C in large white Burgundy glasses. The magnum format gives the wine further ageing reserve, while already offering a refined expression for lovers of great mineral Chardonnay.
