The Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2018 from Domaine de Montille is a great Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune, produced from one of the most noble climats on the Corton hill. In this generous vintage, the wine combines the natural depth of the Grand Cru with a ripe, spicy and firmly structured expression.
Domaine de Montille brings a precise and elegant reading to Corton. The wine has breadth and presence, with firm tannins and impressive depth, yet it retains freshness, poise and a clear sense of refinement. This 2018 carries the density of the vintage while preserving the straight line and mineral depth that define Clos du Roi.
Clos du Roi, one of Corton’s great climats
Clos du Roi is often considered one of the finest and most complete expressions of Corton. Located mid-slope on the south-eastern side of the hill, it benefits from high-quality clay-limestone soils, giving Pinot Noir both power, depth and elegance.
Domaine de Montille’s parcel lies just above the path separating Les Bressandes from Clos du Roi. This position brings the natural authority of Corton, but also a more refined and precise expression, with freshness, mineral grip and a long, savoury finish.
The 2018 Burgundy vintage
The 2018 vintage was a warm and generous year in Burgundy. The red wines often show ripe fruit, deep colour, dense texture and a broader mouthfeel than in cooler vintages.
In Corton Clos du Roi, this richness gives a full and expressive wine, with ripe red and black fruit, spice, floral notes, serious structure and a long finish. Domaine de Montille preserves the balance needed to frame the power of the cru and support long cellar ageing.

Colour: deep purple-ruby with garnet reflections, showing impressive visual intensity.
Nose: complex and expressive, with ripe cherry, raspberry, dark berries, plum, spice, flowers, black truffle, embers, rich earth and a subtle smoky nuance.
Palate: broad, deep and concentrated, with a muscular yet elegant structure, powdery tannins, lively acidity and a long, resonant, mineral finish. The wine has the density of the 2018 vintage, but also the energy and precision of a great terroir.

Serving and ageing potential
This Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2018 can be enjoyed today after a gradual opening, but it remains youthful in expression. Gentle aeration is recommended to allow the wine to open without disturbing its structure.
Serve at around 16 to 17°C in large Burgundy glasses. The wine has excellent ageing potential and should continue to gain complexity, developing further notes of forest floor, truffle, spice and evolved dark fruit over time.
