Cheval des Andes 2018

A prestigious Argentine Bordeaux-style blend born from the partnership between Château Cheval Blanc and Terrazas de los Andes, combining Andean altitude, precision and elegance.

Terroir & parcels

Cheval des Andes is produced in Mendoza, at the foothills of the Andes, primarily from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. These high-altitude sites (roughly 900–1,200 meters above sea level) benefit from intense sunlight, cool nights and significant diurnal temperature variation, promoting slow ripening and aromatic precision.

The soils are predominantly alluvial, composed of sand, gravel and stones deposited by Andean rivers, with excellent drainage and low fertility. This environment encourages deep root systems and naturally low yields, resulting in concentrated berries with refined tannins and marked mineral freshness.

The blend is inspired by the Bordeaux tradition, with Malbec forming the backbone, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and, depending on the vintage, small proportions of other Bordeaux varieties. The 2018 vintage reflects a balanced growing season, allowing for optimal phenolic maturity and a harmonious structure.

Tasting notes

Nose:
Complex and refined, revealing blackberry, blackcurrant and violet, layered with notes of graphite, cocoa, sweet spices and subtle cedar from oak aging.

Palate:
Structured and elegant, with silky tannins and a dense yet polished texture. Dark fruit, plum and cassis are framed by mineral tension and well-integrated oak, delivering both power and precision.

Finish:
Long and persistent, marked by freshness, fine spice and lingering notes of dark fruit and graphite. A wine of depth and balance with excellent aging potential.
