Malbec “Altura Máxima” 2015 — Bodega Colomé
This Malbec “Altura Máxima” 2015 from Bodega Colomé expresses the singular character of high-altitude winemaking in northern Argentina. Born in the dramatic landscapes of Salta, it combines concentration, solar intensity, mountain freshness and mineral depth in a powerful, dark and highly distinctive style.
Terroir: Salta, extreme altitude and the intensity of Malbec
Colomé’s vineyards are located in the Calchaquí Valleys, a spectacular region of north-western Argentina shaped by altitude, intense sunlight, wide diurnal temperature variation and demanding growing conditions. These elements give Malbec deep colour, full ripeness and a rare natural freshness for a wine of such density.
The 2015 vintage offers a broad and structured expression, with ripe dark fruit, a spicy frame and mineral energy that balances the wine’s power. The result remains dense and sun-filled, yet carried by a tension that extends the palate with great character.
Tasting notes
Appearance: very deep purple, almost opaque, with violet and garnet reflections, dense and brilliant.
Nose: intense and deep, with blackberry, cassis, black plum, violet, sweet spices, black pepper, cocoa, liquorice and a touch of graphite. With aeration, notes of dry earth, wild herbs and warm stone reinforce the wine’s distinctive terroir expression.
Palate: powerful, dense and velvety, with concentrated dark fruit, firm yet polished tannins and high-altitude freshness that maintains balance. The finish is long, spicy, mineral and slightly saline, with an impression of dark, controlled depth.
Fruit: blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, ripe dark fruits.
Flowers and spices: violet, black pepper, sweet spices, cocoa, liquorice.
Terroir: graphite, warm stone, dry earth, wild herbs, high-altitude freshness and a mineral finish.
In summary: a rare, deep and spectacular Argentine Malbec, where dark-fruited power meets high-altitude freshness and the singular mineral character of Salta’s extreme terroirs.
