Les Larmes Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018 — Littorai
This Les Larmes Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018 from Littorai reflects a rare and refined approach to Californian Pinot Noir. Under the direction of Ted Lemon, the estate seeks finesse, aromatic transparency and a precise reading of place, in a luminous, floral and delicate style, far removed from overly sunny expressions of California.
Terroir: Anderson Valley, coastal freshness and Pinot Noir elegance
Anderson Valley, in Mendocino County, benefits from a strong oceanic influence, with cool nights, morning fog and slow grape ripening. These conditions allow Pinot Noir to preserve freshness, delicate fruit, fine tannins and natural energy.
The 2018 vintage delivers a particularly harmonious expression, combining bright red fruit, floral lift, freshness and a silky mouthfeel. At Littorai, this ripeness remains perfectly controlled, in a precise, highly drinkable and deeply elegant style.
Tasting notes
Appearance: light ruby red with garnet reflections, brilliant, with a measured intensity that immediately suggests a Pinot Noir built on finesse.
Nose: luminous and expressive, with fresh cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb, blueberry, violet, crushed berries, dried orange peel, saffron and liquorice. With aeration, fine floral, spicy and lightly earthy nuances add further complexity.
Palate: supple, delicate and highly digestible, with pure fruit, very fine tannins and vivid acidity that brings length and energy. The finish is long, fresh and elegant, carried by a refined expression of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir.
James Suckling — Tasting note
James Suckling describes the Les Larmes Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018 from Littorai as a bright and open Pinot Noir, marked by crushed berries, dried orange peel, saffron and liquorice. The estate’s own notes complete this profile with aromas of fresh cherry, wild strawberry, rhubarb, blueberry and violet, as well as a supple, delicate palate, carried by very fine tannins, vivid acidity and a long finish.
In summary: an elegant, floral and highly drinkable Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, shaped by Littorai’s precise and refined style, with luminous red fruit, fine tannins and a long finish.
Food pairings: roast poultry, duck with cherries, Iberian pork, veal with mushrooms, grilled salmon, morel risotto, refined Japanese cuisine or lightly aged soft cheeses.
