For Her 2015 — L’Aventure Winery

The For Her 2015 from L’Aventure Winery is one of Stephan Asseo’s most confidential cuvées in Paso Robles. Closely associated with Béatrice Asseo, it reflects the estate’s highly personal approach: Rhône-inspired varieties, Californian ripeness, limestone-driven freshness and the precision of a winemaker shaped by Bordeaux.

The 2015 blend combines 50% Syrah, 32% Monastrell / Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache and 8% Viognier. The wine is dense, generous and layered, with black and blue fruit, violet, graphite, spice, mocha, dark chocolate and a floral lift from the Viognier. Despite its richness, the finish remains long, polished and mineral.

L’Aventure, Stephan Asseo’s Paso Robles signature

Located on the west side of Paso Robles, in the Willow Creek District, L’Aventure Winery has become one of California’s most sought-after estates for powerful yet finely shaped blends. The estate is known for combining Rhône and Bordeaux sensibilities with the distinctive limestone soils of this cooler, western part of Paso Robles.

For Her 2015 is made exclusively from estate-grown fruit. The grapes were co-fermented, aged for 14 months in French oak, and bottled without fining or filtration. This careful, low-intervention approach preserves the intensity of the fruit while giving the wine depth, texture and a strong capacity for ageing.

Tasting notes

Appearance: very deep purple with garnet reflections, dense and brilliant, still showing impressive concentration.

Nose: intense and layered, opening on blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, cassis, violet, graphite and sweet spice. With air, notes of peach, marmalade, cocoa, vanilla, mocha, pepper, potpourri, fresh earth and camphor add further complexity.

Palate: full-bodied, rich and velvety, with a generous core of fruit and remarkably polished tannins. The wine carries its power with finesse, finishing long on dark berries, flowers, spice and a persistent mineral impression.

Jeb Dunnuck places the 2015 For Her among the finest wines of the vintage, highlighting its black and blue fruit, graphite, violet, floral lift, polished tannins and mineral finish. Vinous describes a deep, perfumed and very long wine, with dark berries, violet, mocha and dark chocolate. Wine Advocate underlines its power, richness and layered profile, with black cherry, crushed blackberry, forest floor, camphor, Indian spices and great length.

The 2015 vintage and serving advice

The 2015 vintage at L’Aventure produced wines of impressive concentration, but For Her also retains freshness, floral detail and a polished structure. It is already expressive, yet its density, tannic frame and balance suggest many more years of evolution.

This bottle can be enjoyed now for its richness and texture, ideally after gradual aeration. Open one to two hours in advance, or decant briefly if the wine feels compact. Serve at around 16 to 17°C in large glasses to preserve both the fruit and the floral nuances.

Key point: a rare L’Aventure Winery cuvée, rated up to 98/100, blending Syrah, Monastrell / Mourvèdre, Grenache and Viognier in a dense, floral, spicy and remarkably polished Paso Robles style.

Food pairings: grilled ribeye, herb-roasted lamb, glazed beef short ribs, spiced duck, Iberian pork, game, premium barbecue, pepper-based sauces, grilled eggplant, roasted mushrooms or mature cheeses.
