Château Mouton Rothschild 1988 — Pauillac
This Château Mouton Rothschild 1988 offers a classical, noble and deeply Médoc expression of Pauillac. As one of Bordeaux’s emblematic First Growths, Mouton Rothschild delivers in this structured vintage a wine of great poise, shaped by the depth of Cabernet Sauvignon, the freshness of the year and the distinction of the great gravel soils of the Médoc.
After several decades of evolution, the 1988 vintage now develops a refined register of blackcurrant, blackberry, dried dark cherry, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, pencil lead, fine leather, cigar box, liquorice, undergrowth and sweet spices. The palate retains a serious structure, with tannins now softened, fine freshness and a long, mineral and delicately evolved finish.
Terroir: Pauillac, deep gravel soils and the nobility of Cabernet Sauvignon
The great gravel rises of Pauillac provide Cabernet Sauvignon with an ideal setting to express structure, aromatic depth and ageing capacity. At Château Mouton Rothschild, this identity gives rise to powerful, precise and long-lived wines, combining dark fruit, mineral freshness, noble tannins and a clearly defined Médoc character. In the 1988 vintage, this signature now appears in a mature, focused and remarkably classical register.
