Château Mouton Rothschild 1995 — Pauillac

This Château Mouton Rothschild 1995 embodies one of the noblest, deepest and most immediately recognisable expressions of Pauillac. A First Growth of global prestige, Mouton Rothschild combines the power of Cabernet Sauvignon, the depth of great gravel terroirs and a sumptuous aromatic signature: cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, fine leather, cocoa, liquorice, sweet spices, black mint, forest floor, light truffle and a long mineral finish.

Château Mouton Rothschild is one of the most mythical estates of the Médoc, renowned for wines that are powerful, refined, intensely aromatic and capable of ageing for several decades. The 1995 vintage, classical, structured and very well-built in Bordeaux, now offers a mature yet still vigorous expression, where black fruit, cedar, tobacco, graphite and spices merge into a noble and persistent architecture.

The spirit of the wine

A great Pauillac of depth, structure and refinement, where the natural power of Mouton Rothschild is expressed with maturity, freshness and complexity. The wine combines evolved black fruits, cassis, cedar, graphite, tobacco, cocoa, fine leather, liquorice and spices, with a broad, velvety, structured and highly persistent palate. It is a Mouton of classicism, nobility and great ageing potential.

Terroir: Pauillac, deep gravel and Médoc grandeur

The vineyard of Château Mouton Rothschild is located in Pauillac, on deep gravel rises that favour drainage, slow ripening and Cabernet Sauvignon concentration. These poor, stony soils, combined with the regulating influence of the Gironde, give wines of great structure, capable of combining power, freshness, tannic finesse and longevity.

The style of Mouton Rothschild is distinguished by its aromatic intensity, textural richness and highly personal spicy character. Cabernet Sauvignon brings cassis, graphite, cedar, tension and structure; the other varieties complete the blend with roundness, flesh and aromatic depth. In the 1995, the terroir now expresses itself with fine authority: time-polished black fruit, tannins still present, Médoc freshness and well-established tertiary complexity.

Terroir expression: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pauillac, deep gravel, cassis, blackberry, black plum, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, fine leather, cocoa, sweet spices, black mint and mineral freshness.

Mouton Rothschild signature: aromatic intensity, fruit depth, noble spices, Médoc structure, velvety texture, polished tannins, complexity and long persistence.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep garnet evolving towards mahogany and brick-toned reflections depending on storage, still dense, bright and well sustained in fine bottles. The colour reflects the structure of the vintage, the depth of the Pauillac terroir and a noble, slow and controlled evolution.

Nose: deep, classical and complex, with cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, melted black fruits, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, fine leather, cocoa and liquorice. With aeration, nuances of mocha, precious woods, sweet spices, sweet pepper, black mint, incense, forest floor, noble earth and light truffle may appear.

Palate: broad, dense, velvety and still firmly structured, with evolved black fruit carried by precious freshness. Flavours of cassis, blackberry, plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco, cocoa, fine leather, liquorice and spices unfold with depth, supported by polished yet still present tannins. The finish is long, mineral, spicy and persistent, with an impression of nobility, controlled power and great Pauillac classicism.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, melted black fruits, evolved dark berries.

Ageing and spices: cedar, cocoa, mocha, precious woods, liquorice, blond tobacco, sweet spices, sweet pepper, incense.

Terroir and evolution: graphite, fine leather, black mint, forest floor, noble earth, light truffle, polished tannins, mineral freshness.

Overall impression: great mature, deep and complex Pauillac, with velvety texture, preserved freshness and a long spicy, mineral finish.

Expression of the 1995 vintage

The 1995 vintage in Bordeaux produced classical, structured wines with excellent ageing potential. In Pauillac, the best crus developed a serious tannic architecture, fine black fruit concentration and freshness that allows the wines to cross decades with nobility. Today, great bottles reveal a balance between time-polished fruit, cedar, tobacco, graphite, leather, truffle, forest floor and spices.

This Château Mouton Rothschild 1995 is entering a highly seductive phase of maturity, while still preserving the structure of a great ageworthy wine. Measured aeration is recommended in order to preserve its balance and allow its notes of cassis, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, fine leather, cocoa, sweet spices, forest floor and minerality to open gradually.

In summary: a deep, classical and refined Château Mouton Rothschild 1995, driven by the structure of the vintage, the grandeur of Pauillac and the unique aromatic signature of this First Growth.

Dominant aromas: cassis, blackberry, black plum, black cherry, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, fine leather, cocoa, liquorice, sweet spices, black mint, forest floor, light truffle and a long mineral finish.
