Château Pontet-Canet 2019 — Pauillac
This Château Pontet-Canet 2019, offered here in double magnum 3 L in original wooden case, expresses all the depth, energy and precision of a great contemporary Pauillac. A Fifth Growth that has become one of the major references of the Médoc, Pontet-Canet in 2019 delivers an intense, pure and masterfully balanced wine: cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, graphite, cedar, violet, blond tobacco, cocoa, liquorice, fine spices, noble earth and a long mineral finish.
Château Pontet-Canet is renowned for its demanding approach to viticulture, its pursuit of purity and its style that is at once deep, vibrant and faithful to the great terroirs of Pauillac. The 2019 vintage brings ripeness, freshness, density and remarkable tannin quality. The double magnum in original wooden case further reinforces the collector dimension, slow evolution and ageing potential of this rare bottle.
A great Pauillac of depth and precision, where the power of Cabernet Sauvignon remains carried by remarkable freshness and a highly refined texture. The 2019 combines ripe black fruits, cassis, violet, graphite, cedar, tobacco, liquorice and spices, with a dense, velvety, straight and highly persistent palate. The double magnum OWC heightens its nobility, rarity and capacity for slow evolution.
Terroir: Pauillac, deep gravel and the energy of Cabernet Sauvignon
The vineyard of Château Pontet-Canet is located in Pauillac, on the great gravel rises of the Médoc, close to some of the appellation’s most prestigious crus. These poor, stony and highly draining soils encourage deep vine rooting and allow Cabernet Sauvignon to express its structure, freshness, aromatic depth and ageing capacity.
The style of Pontet-Canet combines the classical density of Pauillac with a sensation of purity and energy. Cabernet Sauvignon brings cassis, graphite, cedar, tension and structuring tannins; Merlot completes the wine with flesh, roundness and fruit depth. In the 2019, the terroir translates into a wine that is powerful, precise and luminous, with a long, fresh and mineral finish.
Terroir expression: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pauillac, deep gravel, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, violet, graphite, cedar, tobacco, liquorice and mineral freshness.
Pontet-Canet signature: fruit purity, energy, depth, refined tannins, age-worthy structure, precise ageing, balance and very long persistence.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep purple with garnet and black reflections, dense, bright and still very youthful. In double magnum, the colour should preserve its intensity, dark brilliance and depth for a long time, with much slower evolution than in a standard bottle.
Nose: deep, pure and highly expressive, with cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, black fruits, violet, graphite, cedar, blond tobacco, cocoa and liquorice. With aeration, nuances of pencil lead, fine spices, fine leather, black mint, noble earth, mocha, precious woods and discreet forest floor may appear.
Palate: full, dense, velvety and perfectly balanced, with intense black fruit and a tannic structure that is both serious and very polished. Flavours of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, graphite, cedar, tobacco, cocoa, liquorice and spices unfold with precision, supported by clear freshness. The finish is long, deep, mineral and persistent, with an impression of controlled power and great Pauillac nobility.
Fruit: cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, black fruits, dark plum, black berries.
Ageing and spices: cedar, cocoa, mocha, fine spices, blond tobacco, precious woods, liquorice, fine leather.
Terroir and evolution: graphite, pencil lead, violet, black mint, noble earth, discreet forest floor, polished tannins, mineral freshness.
Overall impression: great Pauillac, deep, pure and structured, with intense black fruit, velvety texture and a long mineral finish.
Expression of the 2019 vintage
The 2019 vintage in Bordeaux is recognised for its balance between ripeness, concentration, freshness and tannic finesse. In Pauillac, it produced deep, aromatically pure and highly structured wines capable of combining power and elegance. At Pontet-Canet, this year particularly highlights black-fruit density, mineral precision, tannin quality and freshness on the finish.
Today, this Château Pontet-Canet 2019 in double magnum remains very young and has excellent ageing potential. It can already impress through its richness, balance and brightness after careful aeration, but the large format will allow it to gain further complexity: cedar, tobacco, fine leather, graphite, cocoa, forest floor, truffle, melted spices and mineral nuances should gradually join the depth of black fruit.
In summary: a deep, pure and highly structured Château Pontet-Canet 2019 in double magnum OWC, driven by the balance of the vintage, the energy of Pauillac terroir and remarkable ageing capacity.
Dominant aromas: cassis, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, violet, graphite, cedar, blond tobacco, cocoa, liquorice, fine spices, fine leather, noble earth and a long mineral finish.
