Château Mouton Rothschild 1984 — Pauillac
This Château Mouton Rothschild 1984 is a collector’s bottle from one of the most emblematic estates in Pauillac. More than a vintage of power, it is now a rare heritage piece, bringing together the prestige of a First Growth, the history of mature great Bordeaux and an artistic label created by Yaacov Agam.
Terroir: Pauillac, Médoc depth and the Mouton Rothschild signature
Located in the northern part of Pauillac, Château Mouton Rothschild lies on deep gravel rises that are particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate’s wines are known for their aromatic intensity, noble structure, depth and immediately recognisable personality.
The 1984 vintage is above all intended for lovers of old bottles, collectors and enthusiasts of the Mouton Rothschild universe. After several decades of evolution, it should be approached with the sensitivity reserved for mature wines: each bottle has its own expression, closely linked to its history and storage conditions.
Tasting notes
Appearance: evolved garnet, with brick or mahogany reflections depending on the condition of the bottle, and an intensity naturally softened by time.
Nose: mature and tertiary, with old cedar, blond tobacco, fine leather, autumn leaves, cigar box, sweet spices and softened dark fruit. Depending on the bottle’s evolution, nuances of undergrowth, black tea, noble earth and discreet truffle may appear.
Palate: supple, melted and delicately time-patinated, carried more by tertiary charm, aromatic finesse and Médoc elegance than by power. The finish remains classical, with cedar, tobacco, leather, spices and the noble impression of an old Pauillac.
A label signed by Yaacov Agam
Since 1945, Château Mouton Rothschild has entrusted the illustration of its label to a different artist for each vintage. For the 1984 vintage, the label was created by Yaacov Agam, an Israeli artist associated with kinetic art and the exploration of movement, perception and colour.
This artistic dimension makes every bottle of Mouton Rothschild a collector’s object in its own right. The 1984 vintage therefore appeals as much through its visual identity as through its place in the prestigious history of the château.
A collector’s bottle
More than a classic old Bordeaux, this Château Mouton Rothschild 1984 is aimed at collectors drawn to the history of the estate, mature vintages and the legendary series of artist labels. Its appeal lies in the meeting of a great Pauillac name, a now confidential vintage and a graphic work that fully contributes to the identity of the bottle.
In summary: a rare and patrimonial Château Mouton Rothschild 1984, sought after for its Bordeaux prestige, age, label signed by Yaacov Agam and the singular emotion of a collectible old Pauillac.
Food pairings: contemplative tasting, roast poultry, veal with morels, mushrooms, truffle, aged Comté, refined cuisine with reduced jus, or served at the end of a meal to fully appreciate the historic character of the bottle.
