Domaine des Marnes Blanches Chardonnay Empreinte 2022
Domaine des Marnes Blanches Chardonnay Empreinte 2022 is a distinctive Jura white, combining the purity of Chardonnay with the region’s great tradition of wines aged under voile. Produced from 35- to 50-year-old vines, it offers an intense, dry and deeply expressive profile, shaped by noble oxidative complexity.
Aged in barrel, in a dry cellar, without topping up and under a veil of flor for 34 months, this cuvée develops a strong and highly individual character: fresh walnut, gentle curry, dried apple, fine spices, saline drive and a long, savoury finish. A Jura Chardonnay of real personality, made for lovers of profound, gastronomic and unmistakably regional white wines.
Terroir
Domaine des Marnes Blanches, run by Pauline and Géraud Fromont, is located in the southern part of the Jura’s Revermont. This cuvée comes from Chardonnay vines rooted in Lias marls, soils that give the wine structure, density and a deep mineral expression. Ageing under voile, without regular topping up of the barrels, encourages the development of refined oxidative aromas while preserving a dry, taut and remarkably persistent structure.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep golden yellow colour, bright and clear, suggesting a white wine of character already marked by its long ageing.
Nose: aromas of fresh walnut, dried apple, citrus peel, gentle curry, pale spices, almond, sourdough and a fine touch of wet stone.
Palate: broad and dry, carried by a beautiful saline energy. The wine combines volume, firmness and complexity, with a long, savoury and delicately spicy finish, typical of great Jura whites aged under voile.
Expression of the vintage
The 2022 vintage brings ripeness and presence without weighing down the balance. The Chardonnay retains a firm structure, while ageing under voile enriches the wine with nuances of walnut, spice and dried fruit. Already expressive, this white will gain further complexity with a few years of cellaring, developing deeper notes of curry, hazelnut, wax and salinity.
In summary: a dry, intense and deeply gastronomic Jura Chardonnay aged under voile. A characterful cuvée shaped by Lias marls, long oxidative ageing and the precise signature of Domaine des Marnes Blanches.
Food pairings: aged Comté, Bresse chicken with morels, mushroom risotto, river fish with beurre blanc, creamy dishes, seared scallops or gently spiced dishes with mild curry.
