Domaine des Marnes Blanches – Jura
Jura excellence shaped by white marl, organic farming and crystalline, terroir-driven wines
The Estate
Founded in the mid-2000s by Pauline and Géraud Fromont, Domaine des Marnes Blanches has quickly become one of the most sought-after names in the Sud-Revermont, the southern sector of the Jura. Across roughly ten hectares, the two oenologists craft precise, mineral-driven wines that celebrate the region’s emblematic grapes — Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir. The estate’s identity is built on an uncompromising philosophy: organic viticulture, minimal intervention in the cellar and a constant pursuit of purity and terroir expression.
Terroir & Vineyard
The estate stretches across the communes of Cesancey, Vincelles and Sainte-Agnès. It takes its name from the white marl soils of Cesancey — calcareous, clay-rich formations that give the wines their hallmark saline tension, chalk-like precision and mineral depth. Other parcels are rooted in red marl and limestone with fossils, allowing for a rich palette of expressions within the Côtes du Jura. Many vines are mature and deeply rooted, producing naturally low yields and grapes of exceptional balance.
Philosophy & Viticulture
From the outset, Domaine des Marnes Blanches committed to certified organic farming, working the soils, encouraging natural vegetation and avoiding herbicides and synthetic products. Yields are kept in check, and all grapes are harvested by hand in small crates. This thoughtful, detail-oriented approach ensures pristine fruit, harvested at ideal ripeness, forming the foundation of wines that are vibrant, transparent and deeply rooted in Jura’s identity.
Winemaking & Ageing
In the cellar, the Fromonts follow a low-intervention, natural winemaking philosophy. Pressings are gentle, indigenous yeasts drive all fermentations, and ageing takes place on fine lees in a mix of tanks, demi-muids and barrels. Sulphur is used sparingly, only when essential, and no fining or corrective oenology is employed. The domaine produces both ouillé (topped-up) whites of great precision and more traditional Jura expressions such as Savagnin sous voile and Vin Jaune, each shaped by the unique energy of marl and limestone soils.
Wine Style
The wines of Domaine des Marnes Blanches are defined by their radiant energy, clarity of fruit and striking mineral tension. Chardonnay and Savagnin ouillé wines show aromas of lemon zest, white orchard fruit, chalk and white flowers, with linear, saline finishes. Traditional Savagnin and Vin Jaune display complex layers of walnut, curry, yellow fruit and warm stone, supported by remarkable verticality and ageing potential. The reds — Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir — are delicate, juicy and aromatic, favouring finesse over extraction, with silky tannins and pure fruit definition.
