Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Prestige 2016 — Domaine Roger Sabon
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Prestige 2016 from Domaine Roger Sabon embodies a deep, elegant and remarkably harmonious expression of the appellation. Built around a Grenache-dominant blend, complemented mainly by Syrah and other traditional varieties, this cuvée combines rich fruit, aromatic purity, silky texture and impressive length.
Terroir: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, depth and Rhône refinement
Domaine Roger Sabon is one of the recognised names of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, producing wines that combine Mediterranean ripeness, structure and a strong sense of balance. The Cuvée Prestige stands out through an ambitious selection of grapes, resulting in a wine that is deeper, more textured and more complex than the estate’s classic cuvée.
The 2016 vintage brings remarkable harmony between concentration, freshness, tannic finesse and aromatic intensity. The natural richness of the southern Rhône remains perfectly controlled, with an ample, refined palate built for graceful evolution in the cellar.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep red with garnet and purple reflections, dense, brilliant and still full of intensity.
Nose: pure, expressive and complex, with crème de cassis, ripe dark fruits, olive tapenade, smoked herbs, liquorice, sweet spices and garrigue. With aeration, nuances of pepper, fine leather, warm earth and candied fruit may appear.
Palate: deep, multidimensional and refined, carried by a silky texture, beautiful fruit richness and ripe tannins. The whole is ample without excess, with a long, harmonious and persistent finish marked by fruit purity and the elegance of the vintage.
96/100 — Jeb Dunnuck

A classy Châteauneuf-du-Pape, already seductive but capable of evolving for fifteen years or more.
Expression of the 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage gives this Cuvée Prestige a particularly complete expression: ripe fruit, noble structure, underlying freshness and great precision. The wine is already highly appealing through its silky texture and balance, while retaining significant ageing potential, evolving over time toward notes of dried garrigue, fine leather, melted spices, blond tobacco, black olive and Mediterranean undergrowth.
In summary: a pure, elegant and deep Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Prestige 2016, awarded 96 points by Jeb Dunnuck, driven by Grenache, silky texture, remarkable harmony and excellent ageing potential.
Food pairings: roast lamb with herbs, rib of beef, duck with sweet spices, Provençal beef stew, game, confit vegetables, garrigue-inspired cuisine, truffle-based dishes or mature hard cheeses.
