Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Deux Frères 2006 — Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Deux Frères 2006 from Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils embodies a rare, profound and intensely Mediterranean expression of one of the great wines of the Southern Rhône. A confidential and sought-after cuvée, made from old vines and a rigorous selection, it combines the power of Grenache, the richness of the great terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a now complex evolution: blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, fig, kirsch, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, pepper, liquorice, cocoa, tapenade, fine leather, warm earth and a long mineral finish.
Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils is one of the historic references of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, renowned for wines of great density, character and depth. Réserve des Deux Frères represents one of the estate’s most ambitious cuvées, with generous substance, velvety texture and significant ageing capacity. The 2006 vintage, more classical and balanced than the most solar years, now offers a mature, structured and refined expression, where black fruit gradually merges with spices, garrigue and tertiary notes.
A great Châteauneuf-du-Pape of depth, richness and Mediterranean nobility, where the maturity of the 2006 vintage reveals spicy, earthy and evolved complexity. The wine combines time-polished black fruits, fig, kirsch, garrigue, liquorice, cocoa, tapenade, fine leather and warm earth, with a broad, velvety, structured and persistent palate. It is a rare, powerful and profoundly Rhône-driven cuvée.
Terroir: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, old vines, rolled pebbles and southern depth
The terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape rests on a mosaic of soils combining rolled pebbles, clay, sand and limestone, under the influence of the Mediterranean climate and the mistral. These conditions give solar, deep and spicy wines, capable of combining fruit richness, tannic structure, relative freshness and aromatic complexity.
In Réserve des Deux Frères, the concentration of old vines reinforces fruit depth, palate density and the wine’s persistence. Grenache brings generosity, kirsch, fig, plum and velvety texture, while the complexity of the terroir is expressed through garrigue, spices, tapenade, warm earth and a long mineral finish. In 2006, the balance of the vintage gives a more composed, structured and harmonious expression.

Expression of the 2006 vintage
The 2006 vintage in the Southern Rhône produced balanced, structured wines that were less immediately opulent than some very solar years, with fine ageing capacity and harmonious evolution. In the great cuvées of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this year now offers a mature, spicy and complex profile, where fruit power is accompanied by elegant tertiary notes.
Today, this Réserve des Deux Frères 2006 can offer a profound experience after measured aeration. The wine is in a phase where the richness of black fruit mingles with more evolved notes of fine leather, warm earth, cocoa, light truffle, dried herbs, tapenade and melted spices, while preserving the structure and depth that define the greatness of the cuvée.
In summary: a rare, mature and profoundly Mediterranean Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve des Deux Frères 2006, driven by the structure of the vintage, the concentration of old vines and the intense signature of Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils.
Dominant aromas: blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, fig, kirsch, garrigue, dried herbs, pepper, liquorice, tapenade, fine leather, cocoa, warm earth, light truffle and a long mineral finish.
