Domaine Hubert Lignier — The Noble Expression of Morey-Saint-Denis
Family Heritage & Precision Winemaking
Located in the heart of Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Hubert Lignier is one of the most respected names in the Côte de Nuits. Rooted in several generations of passionate vignerons, the estate is today led by Laurent Lignier, who has carried on his family’s legacy while bringing a precise, contemporary vision. The domaine has earned worldwide acclaim for the depth, purity, and timeless elegance of its wines.
Vineyard & Farming Practices
The estate covers 11 hectares (2020), with many parcels planted to old vines from massale selections. Organic farming has been practiced since 2006 and certified since 2019. No herbicides or insecticides are used; soils are worked through light plowing and cultivation, guided by meticulous observation of the vines’ natural cycles.
Terroir & Appellations
While anchored in Morey-Saint-Denis, the domaine also farms parcels across several prestigious appellations:
Côte de Nuits: Morey-Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche, Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Côte de Beaune: Pommard, Monthélie, Volnay.
This terroir diversity allows the domaine to showcase a refined, nuanced expression of Pinot Noir across its range.
Winemaking & Aging Philosophy
In the cellar, the approach is one of minimal intervention and precise execution:
Hand harvesting with meticulous sorting.
Partial whole-cluster fermentations to add complexity and freshness.
Indigenous yeasts only.
Aging of about 20 months in oak barrels, with 20–30% new oak.
Bottling by gravity, without fining or filtration.
This philosophy aims to capture the purity of the fruit and the full clarity of the terroirs.
Style of the Wines
The wines of Domaine Hubert Lignier are renowned for:
Elegant, structured tannins
Pure, ripe fruit without heaviness
Vibrant mineral tension
Excellent aging potential
