Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 — Domaine Hubert Lignier

This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 from Domaine Hubert Lignier expresses one of the most sensual and generous great terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin. From a Grand Cru renowned for combining breadth, aromatic charm and Burgundian depth, it offers a dense, elegant and intensely perfumed Pinot Noir: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, black fruits, dark rose, violet, sweet spices, liquorice, noble earth, graphite and a long mineral finish.

Domaine Hubert Lignier is renowned for deep, precise wines built for ageing, with a classical approach that favours fruit purity, texture and terroir clarity. In Charmes-Chambertin, this signature meets a cru that is naturally more enveloping than some more austere neighbours. The 2015 vintage brings ripeness, fruit richness and density, while preserving the serious structure and mineral energy characteristic of the domaine.

The spirit of the wine

A Charmes-Chambertin of great presence, at once fleshy, deep and elegant, where the generosity of the 2015 vintage remains framed by the precision of Domaine Hubert Lignier. The wine combines ripe black fruits, cherry, raspberry, dark rose, spice, liquorice, fine earth and graphite, with a broad, silky, structured and persistent palate. It is a Grand Cru of charm, substance and long ageing potential.

Terroir: Charmes-Chambertin, the noble generosity of Gevrey-Chambertin

Charmes-Chambertin is one of the most famous Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin. Located in the continuation of the village’s great terroirs, it is often associated with an expression that is more supple, more perfumed and more approachable in youth than some neighbouring crus, while retaining the depth, structure and ageing capacity proper to the great Pinot Noirs of the Côte de Nuits.

The clay-limestone soils, marls and stony elements bring the wine a combination of flesh, freshness and tension. At Hubert Lignier, Charmes-Chambertin retains a true mineral backbone, with ripe yet precise fruit, serious tannins and a persistent finish. In 2015, the terroir expresses itself through black-fruit density, sensual texture, sweet spices, noble earth and great aromatic depth.

Terroir expression: Pinot Noir, Charmes-Chambertin, Gevrey-Chambertin, clay, limestone, marl, black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, dark rose, spices, noble earth and persistent minerality.

Hubert Lignier signature: depth, precision, measured extraction, fruit purity, serious texture, age-worthy tannins, mineral energy and long persistence.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep ruby with garnet and purple reflections, dense, bright and still very youthful. The colour reflects the concentration of the 2015 vintage and the natural depth of a Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru still in full evolution.

Nose: deep, ripe and highly expressive, with black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, black fruits, dark rose, violet, sweet spices, liquorice and noble earth. With aeration, nuances of graphite, forest floor, cocoa, black tea, sweet pepper, fine leather, discreet cedar, fresh truffle and limestone minerality may appear.

Palate: broad, dense, silky and structured, with generous black fruit that remains very well held. Flavours of black cherry, raspberry, cassis, plum, spices, liquorice, fine earth and graphite unfold with depth, supported by ripe, firm and persistent tannins. The finish is long, fresh, mineral and slightly tight, with an impression of controlled charm, contained power and great Burgundian nobility.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, black fruits, dark berries.

Flowers and spices: dark rose, violet, sweet spices, sweet pepper, liquorice, black tea, deep Gevrey perfume.

Evolution and terroir: noble earth, graphite, forest floor, cocoa, fine leather, discreet cedar, fresh truffle, limestone minerality, firm tannins.

Overall impression: broad, deep and elegant Grand Cru, with ripe fruit, silky texture, serious structure and a long mineral finish.

Expression of the 2015 vintage

The 2015 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are rich, ripe, concentrated and often highly seductive, with fine fruit intensity and solid age-worthy structure. In the great terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin, this ripeness combines with the natural depth of the soils to produce wines that are powerful, balanced and long-lived. In Charmes-Chambertin, the 2015 stands out through generous black fruit, enveloping texture and a persistent mineral finish.

Today, this Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015 remains young and has very fine ageing potential. It can already impress through its fruit richness and density after measured aeration, but will gain complexity with time: forest floor, truffle, fine leather, melted spices, black tea, noble earth, graphite and mineral nuances should gradually join the depth of black fruit.

In summary: a deep, fleshy and highly elegant Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2015, driven by the richness of the vintage, the nobility of Gevrey-Chambertin and the classical precision of Domaine Hubert Lignier.

Dominant aromas: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, black fruits, dark rose, violet, sweet spices, liquorice, noble earth, graphite, forest floor, fine leather and a long mineral finish.
