This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Didiers 2015 from the Hospices de Nuits, raised by Hubert Lignier, brings together two strong signatures of the Côte de Nuits: the historic prestige of the charitable estate of Nuits-Saint-Georges and the precision of a great winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis. From the monopole climat Les Didiers, it expresses a deep, dense and structured Pinot Noir: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, violet, sweet spices, liquorice, noble earth, graphite, fine leather and a long mineral finish.

The Hospices de Nuits owns several emblematic cuvées, including Les Didiers, one of the institution’s most renowned climats. The 2015 vintage, generous, ripe and concentrated in Burgundy, gives here a wine of great substance, with intense black fruit, serious structure and fine energy. Terroir: Les Didiers, a historic monopole of the Hospices de Nuits

The Les Didiers climat is one of the great Premier Crus of Nuits-Saint-Georges and is a monopole of the Hospices de Nuits. Located in the southern part of the appellation, it gives wines of structure, depth and long ageing potential, marked by an earthier, firmer and more mineral expression than the crus closest to Vosne-Romanée. It is a terroir of density, straightness and character.

The clay-limestone soils of Nuits-Saint-Georges bring Pinot Noir a solid tannic frame, mineral energy and great aromatic depth. In Les Didiers, the fruit often shows dark and dense, accompanied by notes of earth, spice, liquorice and graphite. In 2015, the ripeness of the vintage reinforces the generosity of the fruit, while the structure of the terroir preserves poise, freshness and the capacity to evolve.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep ruby with garnet and purple reflections, dense, bright and still sustained. The colour reflects the concentration of the 2015 vintage and the natural structure of a Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru built for ageing.

Nose: deep, ripe and expressive, with black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, plum, black fruits, violet, sweet spices, liquorice, noble earth and graphite. With aeration, nuances of fine leather, forest floor, cocoa, sweet pepper, black tea, discreet cedar, fresh truffle and limestone minerality may appear.

Palate: broad, dense, structured and velvety, with generous black fruit that remains well framed. Flavours of black cherry, plum, cassis, spices, liquorice, fine earth and graphite unfold with depth, supported by firm, ripe and persistent tannins. The finish is long, fresh, mineral and slightly tight, the sign of a wine still evolving and capable of gaining complexity.

Expression of the 2015 vintage

The 2015 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are rich, ripe, concentrated and often highly seductive, with fine fruit intensity and solid age-worthy structure. In Nuits-Saint-Georges, this ripeness combines with the natural power of the terroirs to produce deep, structured and long-lived wines.
