Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2018 — Domaine Hubert Lignier
This Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2018 from Domaine Hubert Lignier expresses one of the deepest, most structured and majestic terroirs of Morey-Saint-Denis. From an emblematic Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits, it offers a Pinot Noir of great density, at once earthy, floral and mineral: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, black fruits, violet, dark rose, sweet spices, liquorice, graphite, noble earth, forest floor and a long stony finish.
Domaine Hubert Lignier is renowned for deep, precise wines built for ageing, with a classical and demanding reading of the great terroirs of Morey-Saint-Denis. Clos de la Roche represents one of the most powerful expressions of the domaine: a Grand Cru that is broad, structured and highly mineral. The 2018 vintage brings ripeness, fruit intensity and generous texture, while preserving the tension and nobility proper to the cru.
A Clos de la Roche of great presence, deep, dense and mineral, where the richness of the 2018 vintage remains framed by the structure of the Grand Cru. The wine combines ripe black fruits, cherry, violet, spices, liquorice, fine earth, graphite and noble tannins, with a broad, serious, energetic and persistent palate. It is a wine of substance, depth and long ageing potential.
Terroir: Clos de la Roche, the mineral power of Morey-Saint-Denis
Clos de la Roche is one of the major Grands Crus of Morey-Saint-Denis, renowned for producing deep, firmly built wines with great ageing capacity. Its name evokes the marked presence of rock and limestone, elements that contribute to the wine’s mineral tension, structure and length. The cru often stands out through an expression that is earthier, firmer and more powerful than some neighbouring climats.
The clay-limestone soils, stones and marls bring density, depth and energy to Pinot Noir. At Hubert Lignier, Clos de la Roche translates into a wine of great straightness, with dark fruit, a serious tannic frame and persistent minerality. In the 2018, the ripeness of the vintage reinforces flesh and aromatic intensity, while the terroir preserves freshness, structure and a stony dimension.
Terroir expression: Pinot Noir, Clos de la Roche, Morey-Saint-Denis, clay, limestone, marl, black cherry, Morello cherry, cassis, violet, spices, noble earth, graphite and great minerality.
Hubert Lignier signature: depth, precision, measured extraction, serious texture, fruit purity, age-worthy tannins, mineral energy and long persistence.

Expression of the 2018 vintage
The 2018 vintage in Burgundy produced red wines that are rich, ripe and expressive, with significant fruit intensity and often generous structures. In the great terroirs of Morey-Saint-Denis, this ripeness combines with a mineral frame capable of preserving balance. For Clos de la Roche, the 2018 gives a wine of scale, dark, deep and concentrated, yet built on stony tension that supports the finish.
Today, this Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2018 remains young and has very fine ageing potential. It can already impress through its fruit richness and density after measured aeration, but will gain complexity with time: forest floor, truffle, fine leather, melted spices, black tea, noble earth, graphite and mineral nuances should gradually join the depth of black fruit.
In summary: a deep, dense and highly structured Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2018, driven by the mineral power of Morey-Saint-Denis and the classical precision of Domaine Hubert Lignier.
Dominant aromas: black cherry, Morello cherry, ripe raspberry, cassis, black fruits, violet, dark rose, sweet spices, liquorice, noble earth, graphite, forest floor, fine leather and a long mineral finish.
