Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg — Finesse, Lineage and Precision in Vosne-Romanée

Founded in the 1930s in Vosne-Romanée by Dr Georges Mugneret, Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg has become one of the most discreet and admired jewels of the Côte de Nuits. The domaine embodies a Burgundy of refinement, precision and purity, far from any excessive demonstration.

After the passing of Georges Mugneret, his daughters Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée Mugneret took over the estate with exemplary consistency and a clear vision. Their approach combines Burgundian tradition, technical precision and timeless elegance, producing wines of remarkable aromatic purity, satiny texture and great fidelity to terroir.

The spirit of the estate

An emblematic Vosne-Romanée domaine where Pinot Noir is expressed with delicacy, depth and precision. Mugneret-Gibourg favours fruit purity, gentle extraction, naturally elegant textures and a faithful reading of each climat, in a Burgundian style that is classical, subtle and deeply moving.

Terroir: Vosne-Romanée and the great climats of the Côte de Nuits

The domaine owns a remarkable collection of parcels mainly located in the Côte de Nuits, with cuvées from Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits-Saint-Georges and several emblematic Grand Crus. This diversity allows the domaine to express different nuances of Pinot Noir: floral finesse, spicy depth, silky texture and saline length.

The clay-limestone soils of the Côte de Nuits give the wines their balance between structure and elegance. Each climat is worked to reveal its own identity, without seeking excessive power: priority is given to aromatic precision, freshness, fine tannins and length.

Terroir expression: Vosne-Romanée, Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir, clay-limestone soils, ripe red fruits, dried flowers, sweet spices, forest floor, satiny texture and saline finish.

Mugneret-Gibourg signature: finesse, crystalline purity, balance, delicacy, gentle extraction, measured ageing, melted tannins and timeless grace.

Sustainable viticulture and artisanal precision

The domaine practises sustainable viticulture, respecting the natural balance of the soils and the vegetative cycle of the vine. Traditional soil work by ploughing, limited yields and manual harvesting help preserve concentration, freshness and grape quality.

This approach is built on patience, observation and a constant search for balance. Every gesture aims to accompany the terroir rather than constrain it, in order to produce wines that are sincere, precise and profoundly elegant.

Aromatic profile

Fruit: fresh cherry, raspberry, ripe strawberry, redcurrant, delicate cassis and luminous red fruits.

Flowers and spices: peony, dried rose, violet, sweet spices, fine pepper, delicate liquorice and floral notes.

Vinification and ageing

Fermentations are natural, with gentle, controlled extractions designed to preserve all the delicacy of Pinot Noir. The aim is to reveal fruit finesse, climat transparency and the natural balance of the wine.

Harvest: manual, with rigorous grape selection.

Fermentation: natural, with gentle extraction and respect for Pinot Noir delicacy.

Ageing: 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new oak, generally between 15 and 30%.

Bottling: without fining or filtration, in order to preserve aromatic integrity and wine finesse.

Wine style

The Mugneret-Gibourg style is immediately recognisable for its delicacy, crystalline purity and sovereign balance. The wines reveal subtle aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, dried flowers and forest floor.

On the palate, the texture is silky, the acidity perfectly balanced and the tannins melted. The finishes, often saline, extend the tension and aromatic precision. Each cuvée embodies Burgundian elegance with refinement and reveals the unique identity of its climat.
