Taittinger Champagne — The Elegance of Reims, the Purity of Chardonnay

Founded in 1932, Taittinger is one of the last great Champagne houses to remain family-owned. Its singular style — luminous, chalk-driven and Chardonnay-focused — embodies a vision of Champagne rooted in purity, tension and finesse. In Reims, the house rests on exceptional vineyard holdings and on the legendary Comtes de Champagne, an icon of refinement and longevity.

Terroir & Heritage

Taittinger’s vineyard extends over 280 hectares, a mosaic of prestigious crus across the Côte des Blancs (Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger), the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. With a predominance of Chardonnay, this diversity shapes each cuvée with crystalline precision and understated elegance.

Maturation takes place deep underground in the Gallo-Roman chalk cellars of Saint-Nicaise, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, the wines rest in silence, slowly acquiring their balance and complexity.

A Signature Style Defined by Chardonnay

At Taittinger, Chardonnay plays the leading role, often in higher proportions than at other grandes maisons. This stylistic choice gives the wines a luminous texture, precision, and a delicate saline finish. Each cuvée is built on an exacting balance between freshness and maturity.

  • Brut Réserve — immediate, airy and crystalline.
  • Prestige Rosé — bright fruit and delicate precision.
  • Prélude Grands Crus — structure and chalky length.
  • Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs — purity and depth, sourced exclusively from five Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs.
  • Comtes de Champagne Rosé — vinous, structured, and graceful.

History & Transmission

Taittinger’s modern history began in 1932, when Pierre Taittinger acquired the house and made Chardonnay the cornerstone of its identity. In 2006, after a brief interlude under external ownership, the family regained control — reaffirming its long-term vision and independence. Today, Vitalie Taittinger leads the house with a renewed commitment to authenticity, continuity and a luminous, understated style.

Comtes de Champagne — The Icon

Produced only in outstanding vintages, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs stands as one of the purest and most revered expressions of Grand Cru Chardonnay. Sourced exclusively from the five legendary Côte des Blancs villages, it spends close to ten years ageing in the chalk cellars before release. Its filigree texture, refined mousse and extraordinary ageing potential make it a benchmark for connoisseurs.

Food Pairing & Service

Taittinger champagnes pair beautifully with pure, elegant cuisine — fine oysters, shellfish, sashimi, noble fish or delicately prepared poultry. Vintage cuvées and Comtes shine alongside gastronomic dishes and aged cheeses.

Serving temperature: 9–11 °C   |   Cellaring potential: 5 to 20 years depending on the cuvée.
