Château Poujeaux 2017 — Moulis-en-Médoc
Château Poujeaux 2017 expresses the classic elegance of Moulis-en-Médoc with precision. In a fresher and more demanding vintage than the great solar years, the estate produced a straight, structured and readable Bordeaux, focused on freshness, clear fruit expression and balance.
This 2017 seduces with its serious yet accessible Médoc profile: cassis, blackberry, black cherry, cedar, graphite, sweet spice and firm but well-defined tannins. It is made for lovers of classic Bordeaux, already showing an attractive level of maturity while still offering a few more years of evolution depending on storage conditions.
Style and maturity
Château Poujeaux 2017 offers a finer and fresher reading of the Médoc. It does not have the power of vintages such as 2010 or 2016, but it gains in elegance, drinkability and precision. Today, it is beginning to open on a classic register of black fruit, integrated oak, spice and subtle tertiary nuances.
Terroir and vinification
Located in the heart of Moulis-en-Médoc, Château Poujeaux lies on the gravel rises of Grand-Poujeaux, one of the historic terroirs of the appellation. These well-draining soils favour the ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon while preserving the freshness and tension that define its Left Bank identity.
The 2017 blend is composed of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 13% Petit Verdot. Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure, graphite and length; Merlot adds volume and a softer texture; Petit Verdot reinforces colour, spice and tannic definition. Ageing in French oak barrels supports the wine without masking its Médoc character.
Tasting notes
The colour is deep, with garnet reflections beginning to show the wine’s evolution. The nose opens with cassis, blackberry, black cherry and morello cherry, followed by notes of cedar, graphite, liquorice, mild pepper, cocoa and fine toasted touches.
On the palate, the attack is balanced, with good substance, present tannins and clear freshness. The fruit remains precise, the structure is straight, and the finish extends through black fruit, spice and a slightly mineral sensation. A classic, serious Bordeaux, already enjoyable but best served with food.

Vintage expression
2017 is a classic Bordeaux vintage, marked by strict selection and profiles that are often fresher, straighter and less opulent than the major ageing vintages. At Château Poujeaux, this translates into a precise, structured and harmonious wine, ideal for lovers of elegant and approachable Médoc wines.
Expert reviews

The highest scores underline its depth and balance, while the more measured comments reflect the classic nature of the vintage: less opulent than 2010 or 2016, but elegant, straight and already compelling at the table.
