Margaux — A Jewel of Bordeaux
Margaux is one of the most refined and historic appellations of Bordeaux. Crowned by the legendary Château Margaux — a Premier Grand Cru Classé since 1855 — the appellation includes 21 classified growths, making it one of the most prestigious names on the Left Bank. Margaux spans around 1,500 hectares and produces approximately 78,000 hectolitres of red wine per year, with two rare exceptions: the Pavillon Blanc of Château Margaux and the discreet white cuvée of Château Palmer.
An Appellation of Rare Elegance
Margaux wines are celebrated for their delicacy, finesse, and harmonious balance between fruit and bouquet. Their exceptional aging potential allows them to reveal a rare elegance throughout their evolution, from youth to maturity. A classic culinary pairing with a great Margaux is Tournedos Rossini, a dish that beautifully highlights the depth and refinement of these wines.
Terroir and Grape Varieties
The appellation’s gravel soils and temperate climate provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon to reach its full potential, supported by Merlot and Petit Verdot. This blend produces wines of remarkable structure, aromatic complexity, and sensual texture — often described as the most feminine and perfumed of the Médoc.
