Penfolds Grange Bin 95 2014

An absolute icon of Australian wine, Penfolds Grange Bin 95 2014 embodies a masterful vision of South Australian Shiraz, combining depth, structure, power and remarkable ageing potential in a style that is both monumental and impeccably controlled.

Terroir & blend

Created by Max Schubert, Grange Bin 95 is Penfolds’ most iconic wine and one of the great reference points of the New World. Rather than expressing a single vineyard, it is built on Penfolds’ historic multi-regional blending philosophy, designed to capture the highest expression of South Australian fruit in each vintage.

The 2014 vintage is composed primarily of Shiraz, completed by a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from leading vineyards across South Australia, notably the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley. This combination allows Penfolds to build a wine of exceptional richness, aromatic complexity and structural precision, with each region contributing its own dimension to the final blend.

Aged for 18 months in new American oak, Grange develops its unmistakable signature of dark fruit, spice, mocha and noble oak. The name Bin 95 refers to the original numbered storage bin in Penfolds’ cellars, a historical designation that has become inseparable from Grange itself. In 2014, the wine shows outstanding balance, delivering power and concentration without sacrificing freshness or definition.

Tasting notes

Nose:
Deep and complex, revealing aromas of blackberry, black plum and black cherry, layered with notes of dark chocolate, mocha, liquorice, sweet spice and a subtle balsamic or minty lift.

Palate:
Broad, dense and majestically built, with generous fruit concentration supported by a serious and precise tannic framework. The mid-palate reveals dark berries, cocoa, roasted coffee, pepper and finely integrated oak, creating a style of great intensity and authority.

Finish:
Very long, structured and persistent, marked by depth of fruit, noble tannins and the smoky, spicy signature that defines Grange. A monumental wine for long ageing, still youthful today and destined to gain even greater complexity over time.
