Château Mouton Rothschild 2004 — Magnum in Original Wooden Case
This Château Mouton Rothschild 2004, offered in magnum 1.5 L and in its original wooden case, embodies a classical, distinguished and profoundly Médoc expression of Pauillac. An emblematic First Growth, Mouton Rothschild is distinguished by its aristocratic power, noble black fruit, refined ageing and instantly recognisable signature, combining depth, aromatic brilliance and great stature.
The 2004 vintage now offers a more classical than solar profile, marked by freshness, precision and balance. The wine unfolds notes of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, cedar, graphite, blond tobacco, cocoa, liquorice, fine spices, violet, noble leather and pencil lead. The magnum format encourages slower evolution, better preservation of freshness and a particularly sought-after collector dimension.
A great Pauillac of structure, freshness and nobility, from a vintage that favours precision, balance and classical complexity. The wine combines black fruit, cedar, graphite, tobacco, spices and fine tertiary notes, with a straight, velvety and persistent palate. In magnum and original wooden case, this bottle holds particular appeal for lovers of ageworthy great Bordeaux.
Terroir: Pauillac, deep gravel and Cabernet Sauvignon nobility
The terroir of Pauillac rests on deep, perfectly draining gravel rises, ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. At Château Mouton Rothschild, this foundation gives wines that are powerful, profound and long-structured, yet always marked by a singular aromatic dimension: cassis, graphite, cedar, spices, tobacco and velvety texture. In 2004, this identity is expressed in a classical, fresh and elegant register.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep garnet with dark ruby reflections, still well sustained in fine examples, with slow evolution thanks to the magnum format.
Nose: noble and precise, with cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, cedar, graphite, pencil lead, blond tobacco, liquorice, cocoa and fine spices. With aeration, nuances of violet, noble leather, delicate forest floor and light truffle may appear.
Palate: straight, fresh and structured, with time-polished black fruit, fine tannins and good persistence. The substance remains elegant, more classical than opulent, carried by notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco, cocoa and spices. The finish is long, mineral, lightly spicy and very Médoc in character.
Fruit: cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, time-polished black fruits.
Ageing and spices: cedar, cocoa, liquorice, blond tobacco, fine spices, sweet pepper.
Terroir and evolution: graphite, pencil lead, violet, noble leather, forest floor, light truffle and mineral freshness.
