Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Cuvée du Papet 2016 — Clos du Mont-Olivet
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Cuvée du Papet 2016 from Clos du Mont-Olivet, offered here in double magnum 3 L in original wooden case, embodies one of the noblest, deepest and most traditional expressions of the appellation. From old vines and the domaine’s finest terroirs, this cuvée delivers a broad, spicy and sun-drenched wine, yet remarkably balanced: black cherry, kirsch, blackberry, candied raspberry, plum, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, pepper, liquorice, fine leather, cocoa and a long mineral finish.
Clos du Mont-Olivet is one of the historic domaines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, renowned for a classical, profound style faithful to the great balances of the Southern Rhône. La Cuvée du Papet represents an ambitious selection, often marked by the richness of Grenache, the complexity of old vines and great ageing capacity. The 2016 vintage, exceptional in the region, brings ripeness, freshness, density and precision. The double magnum further reinforces slow evolution and the collector dimension of this rare bottle.
A great traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape, generous, deep and spicy, driven by fruit ripeness and the remarkable freshness of the 2016 vintage. La Cuvée du Papet combines black fruits, kirsch, garrigue, Provençal herbs, liquorice, pepper, fine leather and mineral notes, with a broad, velvety, structured and highly persistent palate. The double magnum in original wooden case heightens its nobility, rarity and ageing potential.
Terroir: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, galets roulés, garrigue and old Grenache
The terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape is based on a mosaic of soils combining galets roulés, clay, sand, limestone and safres. These soils allow the vine to ripen deeply while preserving precious tension. The galets release heat, the clay brings power and water reserves, while the sandier and limestone sectors contribute finesse, perfume and balance.
La Cuvée du Papet highlights the depth of Grenache, complemented by the traditional Southern Rhône varieties according to the domaine’s blend. The wine expresses Mediterranean warmth without heaviness: ripe red and black fruits, garrigue herbs, spices, liquorice, fine leather and a mineral frame that lengthens the finish. In 2016, the exceptional balance of the vintage gives a cuvée that is rich, fresh and highly harmonious.
Terroir expression: Grenache, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, galets roulés, clay, garrigue, black cherry, kirsch, blackberry, plum, thyme, bay leaf, pepper, liquorice and persistent minerality.

With aeration, nuances of fine leather, cocoa, blond tobacco, black olive, orange peel, fig, warm earth, incense and dried herbs may appear.

Expression of the 2016 vintage
The 2016 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is widely regarded as one of the greatest of the decade, thanks to its balance between ripeness, concentration, freshness and tannic finesse. For La Cuvée du Papet, this year gives a particularly harmonious wine: deep fruit, Mediterranean spices, ripe structure, well-integrated alcohol and remarkable length. The power remains controlled by freshness that extends the finish.
Today, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Cuvée du Papet 2016 in double magnum remains young and has very fine ageing potential. It can already impress through its richness and balance after measured aeration, but the large format will allow it to gain further complexity: fine leather, tobacco, dried garrigue, fig, cocoa, melted spices, Mediterranean forest floor and mineral nuances should gradually join the depth of the fruit.
In summary: a rare and profound Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Cuvée du Papet 2016 in double magnum OWC, driven by a great Southern Rhône vintage, the tradition of Clos du Mont-Olivet and remarkable ageing capacity.
Dominant aromas: black cherry, kirsch, blackberry, candied raspberry, plum, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, pepper, liquorice, fine leather, cocoa, blond tobacco, black olive and a long mineral finish.
