Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011 — Château de Beaucastel

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011 from Château de Beaucastel is one of the most emblematic and sought-after cuvées of the southern Rhône. Deeply marked by Mourvèdre, it combines controlled power, freshness, aromatic complexity and great elegance, in an expression that is already evolved yet still remarkably vibrant.

Terroir: Beaucastel, Mourvèdre and profound Rhône depth

Hommage à Jacques Perrin represents the rarest and most ambitious expression of Château de Beaucastel. Produced from a selection of very old vines, it offers a deep, structured and long-lined vision of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with Mourvèdre playing a central role as one of the great ageing varieties of the southern Rhône.

The 2011 vintage gives a reading that is more elegant than massive, with fine freshness, silky tannins and already well-defined complexity. The wine retains serious structure, but stands out above all for its refinement, poise and ability to continue evolving favourably in bottle.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep red with garnet and dark ruby reflections, showing discreet evolution that underlines the wine’s gradual maturity.

Nose: complex and refined, with truffle, bark, red raspberry, cherry, dark fruits, sweet spices, garrigue and warm earth. With aeration, nuances of fine leather, tobacco, Mediterranean undergrowth and dried herbs may appear.

Palate: medium to full-bodied, carried by fine freshness, silky tannins and deep yet perfectly controlled substance. The finish is long, refined and persistent, leaving an impression of elegance, complexity and great poise.

Expert review

97/100 — Wine Advocate

Joe Czerwinski describes the Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011 as a great success of the vintage, still remarkably fresh and elegant. His review highlights aromas of truffle, bark, red raspberry and cherry. The palate is medium to full-bodied, supported by fine freshness, silky tannins and a long, refined finish. He underlines that this is a superb wine, still capable of evolving favourably for more than a decade.

Expression of the 2011 vintage

The 2011 vintage gives this cuvée a fresher, more slender and more refined expression than very sunny years. The wine is beginning to reveal attractive tertiary complexity, with truffle, bark, red fruits, melted spices, fine leather and undergrowth, while retaining enough structure and freshness to continue its evolution.

In summary: a superb and refined Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011, awarded 97 points by Wine Advocate, marked by freshness, silky tannins, truffled complexity and strong ageing potential.

Food pairings: slow-cooked lamb, roast pigeon, duck with sweet spices, game birds, Provençal beef stew, truffle-based dishes, roasted vegetables, sautéed mushrooms or mature hard cheeses.
