Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011 — Château de Beaucastel

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011 from Château de Beaucastel embodies one of the most iconic, profound and sought-after cuvées of the Southern Rhône. Produced only in great years, this legendary wine highlights the power, nobility and singularity of Mourvèdre, combined with the Mediterranean richness of Châteauneuf-du-Pape: blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, fig, garrigue, dried herbs, pepper, liquorice, fine leather, tapenade, warm earth, cocoa, sweet spices and a long mineral finish.

Château de Beaucastel is among the most prestigious estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, renowned for wines of great depth, structure and longevity. Hommage à Jacques Perrin represents the estate’s rarest and most intense expression, with a high proportion of Mourvèdre bringing density, aromatic complexity, tension and ageing capacity. The 2011 vintage, solar yet balanced, now delivers a broad, spicy and already complex wine, while retaining fine energy and significant potential for further evolution.

The spirit of the wine

A great Châteauneuf-du-Pape of controlled power, depth and Mediterranean nobility, where Mourvèdre brings a dark, spicy and earthy signature. The wine combines ripe black fruits, fig, garrigue, dried herbs, liquorice, fine leather, tapenade, cocoa and spices, with a broad, dense, velvety and highly persistent palate. It is a prestige cuvée, built for ageing and marked by great personality.

Terroir: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, rolled pebbles, garrigue and ageworthy Mourvèdre

The terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape rests on a mosaic of soils combining rolled pebbles, clay, sand and limestone, under the influence of the Mediterranean climate and the mistral. These conditions give solar, deep and spicy wines, capable of combining fruit richness, tannic structure, freshness and aromatic complexity.

In Hommage à Jacques Perrin, Mourvèdre plays a central role, bringing a dark, spicy, wild and deeply structured dimension. At Beaucastel, this cuvée is distinguished by its density, precision and ability to age for many years. In 2011, vintage ripeness reinforces black fruit, texture and spice, while preserved freshness maintains balance and length.

Terroir expression: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Mourvèdre, rolled pebbles, clay, garrigue, blackberry, cassis, black plum, fig, dried herbs, pepper, liquorice, tapenade and warm earth.

Beaucastel signature: Mediterranean depth, noble structure, aromatic complexity, controlled ageing, freshness, spice, garrigue, contained power and very long persistence.

Tasting notes

Appearance: deep garnet with purple highlights and emerging mahogany reflections, dense, bright and still well sustained. The colour reflects the concentration of the cuvée, the richness of the vintage and a gradual evolution towards greater tertiary nuance.

Nose: deep, dark and intensely Mediterranean, with blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, fig, ripe black fruits, garrigue, dried herbs, pepper, liquorice and tapenade. With aeration, nuances of fine leather, cocoa, blond tobacco, warm earth, sweet spices, bay leaf, thyme, black olive, light truffle and noble smoke may appear.

Palate: broad, dense, velvety and powerfully structured, with ripe black fruit carried by freshness that remains present. Flavours of blackberry, cassis, plum, fig, liquorice, pepper, garrigue, tapenade, fine leather, cocoa and warm earth unfold with depth, supported by ripe, firm and polished tannins. The finish is very long, spicy, saline and mineral, with an impression of noble power, character and great Rhône persistence.

Aromatic profile

Spices and garrigue: pepper, liquorice, thyme, bay leaf, dried herbs, garrigue, tapenade, black olive, sweet spices.

Evolution and terroir: fine leather, cocoa, blond tobacco, warm earth, light truffle, noble smoke, polished tannins, saline minerality.

Expression of the 2011 vintage

The 2011 vintage in the Southern Rhône produced solar, expressive and accessible wines, often marked by generous fruit, spice and broad texture. In the great cuvées of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this year now offers an appealing balance between ripeness, aromatic complexity and relative freshness, with evolution already underway but still plenty of energy.

Today, this Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011 can already be highly impressive after measured aeration, yet it retains solid capacity for further evolution. With time, it will gain fine leather, truffle, tobacco, melted spices, warm earth, dried garrigue, tapenade and smoky notes, while preserving the depth of black fruit and the characteristic structure of Mourvèdre.

In summary: a profound, powerful and refined Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin 2011, driven by the nobility of Mourvèdre, the Mediterranean richness of the vintage and the prestigious signature of Château de Beaucastel.

Dominant aromas: blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, fig, garrigue, dried herbs, pepper, liquorice, tapenade, fine leather, cocoa, warm earth, light truffle and a very long mineral finish.
