Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2007 — Domaine de la Janasse
This Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2007 from Domaine de la Janasse, offered here in magnum 1.5 L, embodies one of the most profound, solar and sought-after expressions of the Southern Rhône. From very old vines on the great terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this cuvée combines the richness of Grenache, the complexity of southern varieties and the aromatic power of a legendary vintage: blackberry, cassis, black plum, black cherry, fig, kirsch, garrigue, thyme, bay leaf, pepper, liquorice, cocoa, tapenade, fine leather, warm earth and a very long mineral finish.
Domaine de la Janasse is one of the major references of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, renowned for wines of great concentration, generous texture and remarkable ageing capacity. Cuvée Vieilles Vignes represents one of the estate’s most prestigious expressions, with dense substance, deep fruit and a structure built for ageing. The 2007 vintage, solar, opulent and exceptionally ripe in the Southern Rhône, now gives a broad, complex and intensely Mediterranean wine. The magnum format encourages slower evolution, better preservation of freshness and a particularly sought-after collector dimension.
A great Châteauneuf-du-Pape of richness, depth and Mediterranean nobility, where the generosity of the 2007 vintage remains carried by the structure of old vines and spicy freshness. The wine combines ripe black fruits, fig, kirsch, garrigue, liquorice, cocoa, tapenade, fine leather and warm earth, with a broad, velvety, concentrated and highly persistent palate. The magnum format reinforces its ageing potential, balance and collector character.
Terroir: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, old vines, rolled pebbles and southern depth
The terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape rests on a mosaic of soils combining rolled pebbles, clay, sand and limestone, under the influence of the Mediterranean climate and the mistral. These conditions give solar, deep and spicy wines, capable of combining fruit richness, tannic structure, relative freshness and aromatic complexity.
In Cuvée Vieilles Vignes, vine age reinforces concentration, fruit depth and the wine’s complexity. Grenache brings generosity, kirsch, fig, plum and velvety texture, while the other southern varieties complete the whole with spice, structure, garrigue and freshness. In 2007, the exceptional ripeness of the vintage gives a sumptuous, broad and fleshy wine, while preserving fine mineral persistence.
