Terroir: Grenache, old vines and Châteauneuf-du-Pape depth
Cuvée de Mon Aïeul is one of the emblematic cuvées of Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils. Made from 100% Grenache, it expresses the richness and depth of old vines from several parcels, on soils combining sand, clay and limestone.
The 2007 vintage gives this wine exceptional breadth, marked by deep ripeness, great aromatic richness and a particularly enveloping texture. Despite its impressive concentration, the balance is carried by remarkable purity and a sensation of freshness that extends the finish with energy.
Tasting notes
Appearance: deep garnet red with purple, mahogany and slight brick reflections depending on evolution, still showing remarkable intensity for a mature wine.
Nose: spectacular and intensely Rhône in character, with blueberry liqueur, black raspberry, kirsch, ripe dark fruits, liquorice, roasted meat juices and lavender. With aeration, nuances of garrigue, fine leather, sweet spices, cocoa, warm earth and candied fruits may appear.
Palate: ample, powerful and deeply textured, with layered substance, impressive purity and extraordinary concentration. The richness of the vintage remains perfectly integrated, supported by ripe tannins, velvety texture and an immense, spicy, mineral and persistent finish.

His review highlights impressively saturated colour and an intense perfume of blueberry liqueur, black raspberry, liquorice, roasted meat juices and lavender. The palate stands out for its power, multidimensional texture, remarkable purity and concentration that places the wine in a category of its own. A cuvée destined to become a modern legend of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Expression of the 2007 vintage
The 2007 vintage gives this Cuvée de Mon Aïeul a sun-filled, opulent and deeply Mediterranean expression, without losing Grenache purity. Today, the wine can offer more evolved complexity around candied dark fruits, kirsch, liquorice, lavender, melted spices, fine leather, dried garrigue and warm earth. Gradual opening is recommended in order to preserve the balance and depth of the bottle.
In summary: a monumental Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée de Mon Aïeul 2007, awarded 100 points by Robert Parker, made from 100% Grenache and marked by spectacular concentration, remarkable purity and a finish of great persistence.
Food pairings: roast lamb with herbs, matured rib of beef, Provençal beef stew, game, roast pigeon, duck with sweet spices, lamb tagine, confit vegetables, garrigue-inspired cuisine or mature hard cheeses.
